Star Trek: The Next Generation was created by Gene Roddenberry and premiered in syndication in 1987. The first of the twenty-fourth century Star Trek series, The Next Generation enjoyed massive popular success, easing its way into "pop-culture." This huge success led to seven seasons of ratings-dominating episodes and a worldwide rebirth in Star Trek fanaticism. TNG has since made three feature length motion pictures and spun off two sister series, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager.
