First of all, I love Moore's BSG. It was the best sci-fi on television while it was on. And probably is only barely eclipsed by my love for Star Trek as a favorite show. That's saying a lot seeing as I could not sit through an entire episode of the original series. So Singer and Larson sure better be grateful because there is a whole cadre of people who wouldn't have given the movie a chance had it not been for RDM.
And Bryan Singer is a good producer/director. He creates high quality products. I wouldn't say they are my favorite movies, but XMEN, XMEN 2, Superman Returns were all good movie by my estimation. So the new Battlestar Galactica movie should be a success. I am surprised by the negativity. As genre fans, Bryan Singer has done a lot to keep sci-fi/fantasy alive and well. He'll turn out a good product in the end.

SUCK...like it or not like it, Ron Moore's series took a crappy series and took the good parts of it and left out the crap, this movie will be like the Fly 2, you want it to be good, but there's no way it can be...
There, I said it.
Look, I understand when people are ticked off about a remake. I get it. I GET it. But, seriously, it's the third time they've rebooted this franchise. When you hit the THIRD TIME, is the original or remake property REALLY all that sacred anymore?
Remake #1 - Rar, unoriginal, boo. Rage is expected and sometimes right.
Remake #2 - Eh, whatever. The property is a worn out stripper by that point.

How is it the THIRD reboot? I believe it is just the second reboot. Galactica:1980 isn't really a reboot. It's a lame sequel season to the original. In some countries, it isn't even recognized as a different production. It's just the second season of the original BSG.
Apart from that, I still beliebe RDM's BSG was something completely different in style, purpose and content. It was BSG in name only. This movie seems to be going back to the basics. It could be the first real BSG since 1978...

Not the third reboot (it's really a pointless semantic argument anyway), but the third attempt at the series. Which means, it's the third time they've done something with Battlestar Galatcia attached to the title. THIRD! Any original or sacred text the original had is clearly long gone by this point, so we get people all pissy that the franchise is being redone... but it's the THIRD time. It's worn out. Who cares? Just let them remake it another time. Because if you're like "Oh! This can't be remade! Rar rar Rar!!!" and it's the third time they're making something titled "Battlestar Galatica"... that's just insane that some people would get angry about that.
Third time! 3!!!!

It's the third if you consider the Mormon religion to be the first version. ;)

I just want to know how they're getting away with doing another version of BSG when the current Moore version IS STILL UNDER WAY. The Plan just came out on DVD and will air on TV next year, and the spinoff series Caprica starts in a few months, and Olmos has said there may be more made-for-DVD films, too. It just doesn't make sense, and frankly is the worst case of sour grapes I've ever seen.
Reimagine it a second time by all means, but wait 10 years first, huh?

I'm really glad this is going to happen. You know, back in 2003 I HATED the idea behind RDM's version of BSG. I had been boycotting that series for almost 2 years back then and used to curse RDM on the web for about the same time.
Then, after the end of ENT, I gave it a try.I can still remeber the day I finally watched the mini-series on DVD. I had to get myself drunk first because I couldn't stand the thought of finally giving in.
And you know what: I finally fell in love with RDM's BSG. I still believe it is one of the - if not THE - best series ever made.
I'd go so far to say that my longterm hatred for a series I had never seen may have made that first watching experience even far more emotional than for those who had embraced the show from day one. Yeah, I loved NuBSG from that day onwards.
But was it BSG as in BSG:TOS? Nope. It wasn't even G:1980...I hope this new movie will finally resurrect the original BSG flair. I know a lot of people dislike the old show for being campy and silly. But that's what it was...

BSG RDM was a good show, but among the greatest shows of all time? Not even close. That's a little much.
RDM is one of the most overrated writers ever. If he was so good, he could come up with a hit show of his own instead of making a career leetching off the work of others.
BSG RDM was a good show. But let's not make it more than it was.
I look at this new movie with interest. Curious as to casting and what they come up with.

While I agree that RDM's BSG is arguably one of the best TV series ever produced, and for a while that was exactly what I believed. However, some time has passed and I've come to realize that DS9 is still the better series. Abscence makes the heart grow stronger. hehe

While I wouldn't agree that either series was among the best ever produced, I think DS9 was the last good Trek series, and NOTHING BSG RDM did could touch the work put out in Seasons 3-5 of DS9 as a whole (and the first 6 episodes of season 6).

I don't know that I'd call the best series ever. IMHO it was kind of down hill after the second season. They dug WAY too deep into Baltar and the religious angle and then really jumped the shark with the death and reemergence of Starbuck. The finale had it's moments but as a whole was disappointing in it's execution.
And the tease tease tease toward a reveal of the final 5 for four years running and then suddenly - smack - here they all are. That could have been done so much better. It always felt like the writers sat in a room and said, "So what completely unexpected out of the blue from nowhere but my ass kind of reveal can we do this week?"
"Let's have a flash back to the day of the Caprica Holocost....the woman with the baby that Six stopped in front of... She's the final cylon model!!" (Thankfully someone turned down that idea...but you get my point....
Actually - Apollo in the fat suit may have been the shark jump moment.
I think the single most memorable event was the rescue from New Caprica.
New Battlestar Galactica wars on this website to come?
Will this project be a travesty? Or will it be a matter of "Anything will be better than RDM's version!"
