Press Release

Khan voted Best Star Trek Villain

Khan Noonien Singh has been voted Best Star Trek Villain by readers of Totalscifionline.com and Star Trek Magazine.

The ruthless genetically-enhanced baddie was played by the late Ricardo Montalbán. The character first appeared in the original series episode Space Seed, which ended with Khan and his acolytes being exiled on an inhospitable world. He then re-appeared as the central villain in 1982's Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, where his devilish deeds included placing Ceti eels in Chekov and Terrell's ears.

Other memorable villains to receive votes included the slinky Borg Queen, the Machiavellian Gul Dukat and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country's General Chang.

The new villains-themed issue of Titan Publishing's official Star Trek Magazine is released on November 3, 2009 (US) and November 19, 2009 (UK).

Nov 23Chuck returns to NBC with a special two-hour show on Sunday, Jan 10, 2010, before returning to its regular time slot, Mondays at 8pm on the following night. It's return to prime time television can be attributed to a successful fan renewnal campaign last year. CHUCK is a one-hour, action-comedy series that follows Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. This upcoming season will include some special guest stars, including Brandon Routh of "Superman Returns" who will play CIA agent Daniel Shaw in an episode, and the addition of SUBWAY restaurant as a major advertiser to the show. Chuck averaged a 4.0/6 rating last season, about eight percent better than the recently cancelled "Trauma". Ratings-challenged Heroes moves back an hour when Chuck returns on Monday nights. Khan is the greatest Star Trek villain of all time.

Period.

Good choice... | Report this post to moderator

If I prefer Gul Dukat, I'd say Khan is also a great choice. But if you go with actual damage, Nero wins the palm.

Who else even comes close? Maybe Kor in the original series, but that's about it.

Maybe it's because Star Trek has always favored tolerance and understanding, but Trek has never really focused on creating great recurring villains.

That's one thing I would have loved to have seen with TNG, for example. A great Romulan villain that could go toe-to-toe against Picard in any situation. A Moriarty to Picard's Holmes.

To reference Kor again, "It would have been glorious!"

If I am not mistaken, Kor was to appear again in another episode in TOS, either 'Tribbles' or 'Day of the Dove' but there was some sort of schedule or contractual conflict.

Also, while not the perfect foil for Picard wasn't Tomalok a sort of semi-regular nemises (no pun intended) to Picard?

I hate to admit it, but the first time I watched TNG I didn't even realize Tomalok was a recurring character.

I like him just fine, but he's not the kind of grand villain Picard really could have used to test his skills against.

A good choice I might add. I had such great quotes. And let's not forget, Khan did everything with such "passion".

--------

"Life's tough. It's tougher if you're stupid."
-- John Wayne

"Space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence."
--Dr. Leonard McCoy

"I'm a politician, which means I am a cheat and a liar, and when I am not kissing babies I am stealing their lollipops."
-- Jeffrey Pelt, The Hunt for Red October

"Liberals, Intellectuals, Peacemongers, IDIOTS!!!!"
- General Decker, Mars Attacks

"It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires, both subtle and gross. But it's not for the timid."
- Q from Q Who
