This movie has to be csrefully made to consolidate the new audience. No more rush jobs, please. 2012 is for the best. After two more films have been made, two year gaps might be okay. Trek should be fully recovered by then.

What rush job? Star Trek XI was in development for two years and then got an additional 5 months to be promoted to the masses before being released on May 8. Even if XII sticks to the "summer 2011" release schedule, it will be no rush job. You have to remember that much of the preproduction (the casting of main characters, designs of the ships, costumes and sets) have already been done. You simply don't need as much time for the sequel. They'll be fine with either 2011 or 2012.

2011 or 2012 ???? | Report this post to moderator

Well, apparently Mr Urban hadn’t got the memo that the Star Trek XII release is now looking like 2012, according to Mr Orci and Mr Kurtzman (see previous article). I think the 2012 date is set now, but who knows ? Maybe Mr Urban is right and Mr Orci is wrong. I dunno.

I think 2012 is the better release date. 2011 is full. There are so many A-lister sequels upon us that year Star Trek would be in danger of losing the battle. While Star Trek performed strong enough against B-Listers like Wolverine, Angels&Demons and Terminator it can hardly battle Spidey 4, POTC 4 or a potential TDK sequel...

Not sure those movies are B films, but I see your point about 2011.

I think he was calling them "B-rate" based on their eventual box office "success" which was less-than-stellar. The fact of the matter is, summer is summer. Star Trek XII is going to have to compete against blockbusters regardless and will do better no matter what because it has a built-in audience now. The summer of 2009 was probably the biggest competition it would have ever needed to face and it still pulled in $385 million worldwide. I say just put it out there regardless of the other films around it and let it do well on its merits - not because it has no competition.
