IDW editor Chris Ryall posted in his blog an exclusive preview artwork from the first issue of the upcoming Star Trek Deep Space Nine comic book mini series, including a variant cover by Countdown artist David Messina.

Here is how IDW describes the issue, on sale in December :

STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE: FOOL'S GOLD #1

Written by Scott Tipton and David Tipton, art by Fabio Mantovani, covers by The Sharp Brothers.

Captain Sisko and the crew of Deep Space Nine make their triumphant return to comics! When the station begins to be overrun by thieves, treasure-seekers, bounty-hunters and other assorted ne'er-do-wells, Major Kira and Constable Odo must find out why. Can they get to the bottom of it before the station's new visitors bring things to a boiling point?

Larger versions of the artwork can be found here.

He has been cast as Chin Ho Kelly, a detective played by Kam Fong in the original series, which began in 1968. The "Hawaii Five-O" revival is being developed by the screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci ("Star Trek," "Fringe") and Peter Lenkov, an executive producer of "CSI: NY."0

IDW has done very good work and hired major talent to work on his Trek projects - John Byrne, David Messina, Gordon Purcell, DC Fontana, The Sharp Brother and so forth. The Khan adaptation was just a minor fiasco. DS9 is looking good. Now I really want a DS9/TNG comic book crossover, please ?

I really like the artwork, but what is up with Quark? He looks like he's about to ask, "Why so serious?".
