Boston Herald posted a new interview with actress Michelle Forbes, who played Ensign Ro Laren in several episodes of Star Trek The Next Generation and Admiral Cain in Battlestar Galactica. Here are a few excerpts from the interview.

The actress talks about turning down the chance to become a regular cast member in Star Trek Deep Space Nine as the Bajoran officer Ro Laren (a role which later went to Nana Visitor as Major Kira Nerys) "I guess I was sort of stubborn and defiant right out of the gate," she said. "I just knew I was too young to do one thing for seven years. I think, like most actors, I want to be challenged. The most important thing to me is I just want to be scared when I go to work."

The full interview is here.

Plus, Sci Fi Wire just posted a new interview with Battlestar Galactica star Edward James Olmos (Adama) in which he talks about the upcoming Galactica TV Movie The Plan, which he directed. Here are excerpts.

"What their plan was, I think that's a big surprise," Olmos said in an exclusive interview last week at the Saturn Awards in Burbank, Calif., where he won an award for best actor on television. "Finding out what the plan was and how it was structured and how close they were to completing it."

Olmos also praised Grace Park's performance. "This woman should probably win everything possible," he said. "Her performance in The Plan is one of the most exquisite pieces of work on the film. You'll be very happy with your work."

The full interview can be found here.

I wonder how different DEEP SPACE NINE would be if Ms Forbes have accepted the role of first officer Ro Laren in the series. I love Ms Visitor too, but I think (and it is just my opinion that Ms Forbes is a superior actress. Just my two cents.

Michael Piller ended up being happier with the decision of having to create a Bajoran who wasn't affiliated with the Federation, but what could he say, given that it was the decision he was forced to make. I personally agree. Ro Laren added a nice flair, but she was too cold and her character wouldn't have been as meaningful as Kira's.

There are moments when I don't quite like Nana Visitor's performance -- like when she laughs -- but I loved her character, and she seems a very intelligent woman. I'm glad she got the chance to do this new character.

My sense was that Michelle Forbes thought she could launch a movie career, since "Kalifornia" came out in 1993 and she co-starred with David Duchovny and Brad Pitt, but it didn't work out. She was loathe to even accept the role on BSG, when she found out Ron Moore was a writer from TNG. Glad she stuck with it, though.

I've thought about getting the Blu-Rays. There's just so many things out/coming out that I also want (I'm especially torn over the BSG complete series Blu-Ray set).

That shit with 17-year-old Sam was...um...well, something I think I thought about--almost exactly--when I was precisely the same age. Although I was thinking of Ensign Ro herself, red headband and all. ;)
