William Shatner on Why He Has Not Seen J.J. Abrams Star Trek Movie

Features

By GustavoLeao / 19:06, 30 June 2009 / Star Trek: Nemesis

According to TrekMovie.com, while co-hosting Live with Regis and Kelly last Friday Star Trek star William Shatner explained why he has not seen the new Star Trek movie yet.

"I do care, but here is the problem. If I go to the theater, it's like, ‘there is the guy who thinks he is captain Kirk' or something like that. Some ridicule is going to happen. So I have sort of avoided that." Shatner said.

More from Shatner on the new movie at TrekMovie.

Nov 23Chuck returns to NBC with a special two-hour show on Sunday, Jan 10, 2010, before returning to its regular time slot, Mondays at 8pm on the following night. It's return to prime time television can be attributed to a successful fan renewnal campaign last year. CHUCK is a one-hour, action-comedy series that follows Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. This upcoming season will include some special guest stars, including Brandon Routh of "Superman Returns" who will play CIA agent Daniel Shaw in an episode, and the addition of SUBWAY restaurant as a major advertiser to the show. Chuck averaged a 4.0/6 rating last season, about eight percent better than the recently cancelled "Trauma". Ratings-challenged Heroes moves back an hour when Chuck returns on Monday nights. That doesn't mean that we, as fans of the shows/movies need to continually kiss his butt every step of the way no matter what he says or does. The fact that he once played Captain Kirk has no bearing whatsoever, and should not be reason enough for people to not point out how stupid it is.

I think part of the problem is, a lot of people here have forgotten that Captain Kirk is a character he played for 28 years -- these are two different people, some people think they are the same guy! William Shatner has faults and sadly they are no less on display now than they ever were. Save for the fact he replaced that rug with hairplugs eventually.

So what?

And there goes your credibility, yet again.

Yes, Shatner once played a character which has become one of the greatest sci-fi heroes in the history of tv/movies. That doesn't mean that we, as fans of the shows/movies need to continually kiss his butt every step of the way no matter what he says or does.

And by your standards: If one is NOT constantly lying and trashing him, his character, his show, and his fans on a daily basis... it's "kissing his ass" and "wanting to have sex with him."

The fact that you break your neck to trash all of that, yet fall all over yourself to apologize for Abrams speaks VOLUMES about you.

In the end, it's his choice whether he wants to see the movie or not. However, as I've already said, his claiming that he's afraid to go see it because people might make fun of him is absurd at best, stupid at worst. The fact that he once played Captain Kirk has no bearing whatsoever, and should not be reason enough for people to not point out how stupid it is.

It's called a fucking joke, you idiot. You're nothing but a typical Trekweb retard with a typical Trekweb Anti-TOS agenda. But what else is new from you Bermanites?

Yeah, he's fibbing. There's no doubt.

I guess I just think there's a lot of daylight between, as you put it, kissing his butt, and pointing out how stupid he is. That's a space most fans have occupied for decades. It's only now that we have Pine that fans polarize to one of the two extremes.
