Orci and Kurtzman Say They Are Just Beginning to Break Story for Star Trek XII

Features

By GustavoLeao / 07:56, 24 June 2009 / Star Trek: Nemesis

Mania.com posted a new interview with Star Trek and Transformers 2 writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman and here is an excerpt.

Mania:
Are you interest in doing a third Transformers?

Kurtzman:
I think we just need to take a breath now. We want to see how people react to Revenge of the Fallen. We don't ever want it to feel stale. That's when it's not worth doing. Plus, we're already prepping for the next Star Trek.

Mania:
How much can you tell us about that?

Kurtzman:
We're just beginning to break story. I wish we had more, but we're literally laying down the basics

Mania: Are they going to call it Star Trek XII or something else?

Orci:
That's one of the things we have to figure out! [Laughs.] With the first one, we just wanted to call it Star Trek. We got away with it, which was nice.

The full interview is here.

Plus, TrekMovie.com also posted an interview with Orci and Kurtzman and here is the excerpt.

TrekMovie: Switching back to Star Trek, can you give us an update on the Star Trek: Something Something sequel?

Roberto Orci:
We are reading all the posts on TrekMovie-so many smart posts! Fans are truly being heard. We are purposefully taking a moment of Zen to just breathe, watch the old episodes again, and read some of the novels and fan fiction we never got to.

TrekMovie: What did you guys learn from writing the sequel to Transformers that can apply to the Star Trek sequel?

Roberto Orci:
Nothing. They are totally different franchises with different rules

Full interview is here.

You're nitpicking a film that IS canon.. the reason things are different is because the timeline was changed/messed with when Nero destroyed the Kelvin, not because the writers "f*cked up canon". Pike was a young officer on the Kelvin, so his path through Starfleet was changed after the ship was attacked. The fact he is captain of the Enterprise at it's launch is still believable, it's just that the years and roles have changed a bit.
