X-Men Director Bryan Singer Praises J.J. Abrams New Star Trek Movie

CANOE JAM posted a brief interview with X-Men and Superman Returns director Bryan Singer in which he talks about the new Star Trek movie and here are excerpts.

"I thought he [J.J. Abrams] did an incredible job, but you know, I was the fan. I'm more a fan of the original show than all the others, even though I made a couple of movies with (The Next Generation's) Patrick Stewart." said Singer, who did a cameo as an Enterprise-E bridge officer in Nemesis (see photo)

"So I would have loved to have made that movie. I talked to J.J. about this not long ago, before I saw the film, and of course he's not an old Trek fan like I was. And I sometimes wonder if my fandom would have been a detriment to how I made the film. When I made the X-Men films, I was not an X-Men aficionado, which upset a lot of fans going in, but it was the right move. And I think J.J. took the same approach."

While I agree Abrams should continue to direct Star Trek, I wouldn't be surprised if JJ is too busy with other projects and decides not to do it. His stock is on the rise. If that's the case, bringing in Bryan Singer is not a bad idea. I'm sure he'd be down, and now he has Abrams' world to start from.

Yes, Singer is a good director... But as to your comment about George Lucas, it was Lucas who was the problem with the 3 Star Wars prequels. The success of those prequels were inevitable.

As for Singer directing the next Star Trek, he just told you why he shouldn't. He said that Abrams being a non fan is probably what helped this movie find a wider audience.
