X-Men Director Bryan Singer Praises J.J. Abrams New Star Trek Movie

CANOE JAM posted a brief interview with X-Men and Superman Returns director Bryan Singer in which he talks about the new Star Trek movie and here are excerpts.

"I thought he [J.J. Abrams] did an incredible job, but you know, I was the fan. I'm more a fan of the original show than all the others, even though I made a couple of movies with (The Next Generation's) Patrick Stewart." said Singer, who did a cameo as an Enterprise-E bridge officer in Nemesis (see photo)

"So I would have loved to have made that movie. I talked to J.J. about this not long ago, before I saw the film, and of course he's not an old Trek fan like I was. And I sometimes wonder if my fandom would have been a detriment to how I made the film. When I made the X-Men films, I was not an X-Men aficionado, which upset a lot of fans going in, but it was the right move. And I think J.J. took the same approach."

Nov 23Chuck returns to NBC with a special two-hour show on Sunday, Jan 10, 2010, before returning to its regular time slot, Mondays at 8pm on the following night. It's return to prime time television can be attributed to a successful fan renewnal campaign last year. CHUCK is a one-hour, action-comedy series that follows Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. This upcoming season will include some special guest stars, including Brandon Routh of "Superman Returns" who will play CIA agent Daniel Shaw in an episode, and the addition of SUBWAY restaurant as a major advertiser to the show. Chuck averaged a 4.0/6 rating last season, about eight percent better than the recently cancelled "Trauma". Ratings-challenged Heroes moves back an hour when Chuck returns on Monday nights. 20th Century Fox gave George Lucas 100% creative control over the franchise (which is unheard of in Hollywood) because they knew that no matter what he put up on the big screen for those prequels, they would make a killing at the box office -- which they of course did. The downside however is the lack of checks and balances that can ensure that a subpar director like Lucas (who is more of a storyteller/businessman) doesn't produce bloated, CGI-excessive, horribly written and acted films. But hey, people wanted new "Wars" and that's exactly what they got -- and paid to see.
