Features

By GustavoLeao / 18:24, 30 December 2008 / Star Trek: Nemesis

In two brief statements, Star Trek director J.J. Abrams has praised his stars Chris Pine (Kirk) and Zoe Saldana (Uhura). Here are the excerpts.

"He's delivered a real performance," Abrams told the Los Angeles Times about Pine, "and it was amazing to watch."

Regarding Saldana, Abrams told TV Guide in a video interview "She's awesome in the movie. "She's fantastic. She's always a genius."

The original reports are here and here.

Nov 23Chuck returns to NBC with a special two-hour show on Sunday, Jan 10, 2010, before returning to its regular time slot, Mondays at 8pm on the following night. It's return to prime time television can be attributed to a successful fan renewnal campaign last year. CHUCK is a one-hour, action-comedy series that follows Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. This upcoming season will include some special guest stars, including Brandon Routh of "Superman Returns" who will play CIA agent Daniel Shaw in an episode, and the addition of SUBWAY restaurant as a major advertiser to the show. Chuck averaged a 4.0/6 rating last season, about eight percent better than the recently cancelled "Trauma". Ratings-challenged Heroes moves back an hour when Chuck returns on Monday nights. STAR TREK VOYAGER's Robert Duncan McNeill serves Chuck as a supervising producer and director.0

If you scream loud enough, they just might change the advertising (or even the movie) for you.

"A billion robot lives are about to be extinguished! Oh, the Jedis are going to feel this one..."
-Hubert Farnsworth (Futurama: Crimes of the Hot)

"The Andorian Mining Consortium runs from no one!"

Meh...they did the same thing with Ilia and the marketing of the Motion Picture. And, hell, if you went off the marketing alone, you'd think Number Six was the central character of BSG. Hot girls are marketable. People can complain that that's a shallow way to sell a movie. But if it didn't work, they wouldn't do it.

It's a marketing strategy and a smart, calculated move as well. Also, let's not forget that McCoy wasn't even listed in the opening credits initially of TOS, so his importance came later. Sure, I like the idea of the Kirk-Spock-McCoy triumvirate, but I'm glad a female, as well as an African-American, is being highlighted as well.

I have to say the same thing that some others have expressed in recent weeks. Where is McCoy? The focus on advertising here seems to be Kirk-Spock-Uhura. McCoy is the third part of the triumvirate in TOS. I hope the producers and JJ have not changed this, or limited McCoy's presence in this film, or created a love interest between Kirk and Uhura or something.

I want more McCoy!

You know, this movie is, presumably, the start of a trilogy. Maybe you want to blow your load all over the first movie, but I'd like to think that McCoy will get the proper treatment.

That being said, you're basing all your comments on a trailer and some random comments made by Abrams. McCoy could still very well be a big part of this movie.
