Press Release

You Can Only See It on Howard TV:   Beam Him Up:  William Shatner Talks with Howard Stern About His Current Television Projects, His Ongoing Feud with George Takei and the Upcoming "Star Trek" Movie

Actor William Shatner stops by the Howard Stern studio; home of Howard TV On Demand to talk with Howard and the crew for a candid and comical appearance about his television career.  Howard begins the interview by grilling Shatner about his wealth to which Shatner jokes, "I'm worthless.  My self-image is so bad that I came on here and [Robin] said I'm not great and I agree with her."  When asked if he was offered a cameo in the new "Star Trek" movie by director J.J. Abrams, Shatner expresses his disappointment about not being included.

Referring to the recent revelations about bad blood between him and former "Star Trek" co-star George Takei (who often appears on "The Howard Stern Show" as a guest announcer), Stern asks Shatner to confirm whether he was invited to Takei's recent wedding and Shatner replied, "Not to my knowledge."  When Stern plays a recent clip of Takei saying Shatner's stability is called into question, Shatner jokingly agrees with him.  Shatner hinted at reconciliation, possibly inviting Takei to appear on new his show, "Shatner's Raw Nerve." He sums up his philosophy by saying, "When you leave this life, wouldn't it be better not to have any animus anywhere?"

This episode can only be seen on Howard TV On Demand, starting today, December 11, 2008.  For more information about Howard TV On Demand and its availability, check out http://www.howardtv.com/

UPDATED : TrekMovie.com posted a few excerpts of the interview with Stern

Howard Stern: J.J. Adams claims they offered you a cameo in the new "Star Trek."

William Shatner: I know he does.

Robin Quivers: They didn't offer you anything?

Shatner: No. J. J. has got to be a wonderful guy and he's a great...

Interupted by Stern:

Stern: I know J. J.

Shatner: Do you?

Stern: He's a really good guy. He was very good to my kids.

Shatner: How's that?

Stern: J . J . used to write for a show called "Felicity." My daughters loved it. We went to California and we were hanging out and he said he'd put them on the show. They sat in the background of a scene. It was very exciting.

Shatner: If that's what it took, I'd have put his kids on "Boston Legal." (they all laugh)

Stern jokes: You know what J. J. said; he said he wants to give you free tickets to the "Star Trek"opening.

Shatner jokes: "That's greaaaaaaaaaaat"!...

You know nothing about Trek.

TOS movies were done. They ended it well with STVI. The cast was older and TNG was at the top of their game. The decision was made to do TNG movies. They decided in order to do that they had to have a bridge of TOS to TNG. Hence you get Generations. Kirk character was going to be killed off somehow and Shatner thought he might as well do it. They asked Nimoy to directed and he said no. He didn't like the script. So Shatner was in and Nimoy said no. You are implying that it was Shatners greed. It was not.

Generations was dumb and it was years later that RDM had the guts to admit the script was all over the place and totaly shit.

Berman told Shatner that he would do The Return as the next movie and they decided not to the film and you got FC instead. Thus sealing the final fate of Shatner and Kirk. THAT is why you have the hopes of many fans to see Shatner again just like they are seeing Nimoy as Spock. Of course you have the idiots and the anti-shatner fans (are you one too??) that scream it is not right blah blah, it would not be realistic blah blah. Well it is realistic to have had Spock killed off and brought back? Was it realistic to have his radiation poisoned body brought back to life as a child and watch it age. Then put back his soul? Come on people it is a just a movie. It is Sci-Fi damn it. If you want complete realism then go watch the Discovery Channel.

But please stop spreading this bullshit about how Shatner took the money and ran. It was NOT the case. He has wanted to do Kirk again for YEARS now. This would of been a great opportunity to do so. But Abrams has dropped the ball on this one. Please don't give me this "weight and age" thing. Shatner can lose weight. He is 77 years old so it would be difficult but not impossible. Do you scream at your grandparents for not being Mr.Universe??
