Exclusive : Leonard Nimoy Sends a Message to TrekWeb Users About New Movie

Features

By GustavoLeao / 09:46, 4 December 2008 / Star Trek: Nemesis

Star Trek star Leonard Nimoy sent this exclusive message to the TrekWeb community, regarding some of the negative feelings expressed by some fans about the new movie in this website. Here is the message :

"About two months ago my wife,Susan, and I saw a near finished version of the new Star Trek movie. Some special effects and new score were not yet in place. Susan can be a very honest and tough critic. When it was clear that the story was wrapping up she turned to me and whispered, " I don't want this movie to end !!" There are some directors who can manage a grand scale and some who can deliver great personal character elements. Not many can do both. JJ Abrams is one of the few. He has given us a wonderful film."

TrekWeb wants to thanks Mr Nimoy for his kindness and his time to writing this brief message. Thank you.

I don't mean to bash ST:V (which would just continue going off-topic). I just want to say that this is PR and it doesn't matter if it's Nimoy, Orci, Abrams, whoever. Think of Nimoy and anyone else associated with the project as still under obligation to build it up. Trashing a movie yo uwere hired to appear in before release is akin to betrayal in Hollywood. A younger actor would feel a studio's wrath for that kind of sabotage.

That being said, I have no doubt Mrs. Nimoy liked the film. Perhaps Nimoy did as well.

If he seems puzzled by the negativity surrounding this film, he need only be reminded of his initial reaction to the news that TOS was being remastered. I believe his exact words were, "Shame on them." He later was given a better idea of what was going on and supported it. All we have to go on with ST:XI makes me say 'Shame on them.'

I have said before that Star Trek's TOS cast and stories were good enough the first time around. What they are doing now is like taking down a retired athlete's jersey from the rafters just to see his number in action again. Trek should move forward. Do the story in the 34th Century if necessary.

I wonder - in any case - what the Nimoys thought of Kirk grabbing Uhura's boobs?
