J.J. Abrams Describes the Scenes in His Star Trek Trailer - Spoilers

Features

By GustavoLeao / 13:24, 19 November 2008 / Star Trek: Nemesis

Star Trek director J.J. Abrams talks to Empire in a new article in which he describes some of the scenes from the movie theatrical trailer. Here are some of his quotes (beware of spoilers)

"The TV series always presumed this friendship between Kirk and Spock. What I love about what this movie does is that it shows they didn't start out fast friends; they actually had a very rocky beginning and a lot of conflict. How they come to be the Kirk and Spock that we know is very dramatic and rife with tension."

"This is a very funny scene where Kirk is in Uhura's room, watching her undress, and she very quickly realises he's there."

"Part of Nero's back story is that he was being held in a Klingon prison, so that's what you're seeing here."

"There are a couple of good monsters in this, which is unusual for Trek. Neville Page designed them. He did the Cloverfield monster and he did an amazing job. He's a brilliant designer."

"I think that what this movie's bringing is a remarkable new and energetic young cast and a treatment of the world of Star Trek that I think is as intimate as the story is massive in scope. This is a treatment of Star Trek with action and comedy and romance and adventure, as opposed to a rather talky geekfest."

Much more from Abrams can be found at the Empire article.

"at this point, I would like to add my own self to the growing list of people who have this to say about JJ Abrams: "Fuck this guy and ___________"

...and the people getting all crazy over something they've yet to see?

"Trek fans are obviously being marginalized..."

Did I miss a meeting or a memo or election or something where you were appointed to speak on behalf of "Trek fans"? This has become an almost universal characteristic of the anti-Trek-XI rants that get posted here. Why is it that the people that post these sorts of things all seem to feel as though they and they alone represent "Trek fans"? It seems to me that there are a fair number of Trek fans who aren't leaping to post spittle and profanity flecked rants about a product that they have not yet seen.

"Hell, in order to pay less in royalties and likeness fees, we may see Quinto on the cover of a Star Trek book as Spock instead of Nimoy...who knows?"

Will a trumpet also sound when that seal is opened? Cheers to histrionics!

"I take comfort in knowing that the old data on this drive is permanent."

That is a good thing to take comfort in, because with Abrams being the anti-Christ, he might have found a way to write-over all of your DVDs, VHSs, comic books and figurines.

"...will it qualify for the special designation that full Trek fans..."

Thank you for again illustrating my point. Don't let the door hit your ego on the way out.
