Chris Pine Says He is Ready for Star Trek Fame as the New James T. Kirk

By GustavoLeao / 03:57, 1 August 2008 / Star Trek: Nemesis

National Ledger posted a brief interview with Star Trek star Chris Pine, the new James T. Kirk. Here is an excerpt of the article.

Pine says he's ready to ride the tsunami of attention -- and loss of privacy -- sure to come his way next year when he's seen as James T. Kirk in J.J. Abrams' re-imagined "Star Trek" movie. "It's definitely something I thought about upon taking something like 'Star Trek,'" says the 27-year-old actor.  "There's a certain price one pays for being able to act, which is what I've chosen to do, and a certain price to get to that position where one is able to get more opportunities, to be picky, to say yes and no, and be particular."

The full interview is here.

"My my, this young fellow is awfully presumptuous. He sure seems to have an ego on par with The Great Shatner."

Not at all. He's being sensible--he IS about to become very famous, whether he is fantastic or god-awful in the role. He's playing Jim Kirk, and everyone will be talking about it, no matter how well he pulls it off. He'd be stupid to think otherwise--and clearly, he's not stupid. There's no ego involved in this--if anything, I have a feeling the knowledge that you're about to become a household name has got to be VERY humbling, especially when you know how much flack other Trek actors (particularly Shatner) have gotten over the years.

If Pine indeed has a big ego, so he is ready to play Kirk LOL

I don't think its arrogent presumption on his part. I think he has seen what has happened to actors in the past and is preparing himself for it. I think it is smart of him to understand what he is getting himself into. The same is true for the rest of the cast. I did not get the impression he was putting himself up there (or down there however you may view it) with the Shatman.
