Sorry, was just an observation. Wasn't trying to go Freudian and suggesting no hair = Kirk secretly wants to sleep with his mom. Or maybe he does....I don't know.

You simply expressed curiosity and opinion, which is the purpose of this discussion forum.

No need to apologize in response to a clueless fool who routinely insults TrekWeb readers (just look at his ignorance of common and basic things in everyday life).

It's amazing to me how many people are having diffuclty with a basic artistic vision. Is it really that important as to why Uhura is in the red section, and why Kirk's hair isn't shown? I mean, are we really going to start freaking out about that?? Sometimes a poster is just a poster. A means to give us a little taste of the great meal to come, without spoiling our appetite too early :)

I watched the newest HD Star Trek yesterday and it hit me how the poster hasn't shown Kirk's hair yet. Wonder why???

Sorry, someone already mentioned it. To lazy to read further down.

The following photo of Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto was taken in January 2008, during a break from filming ST:XI to attend the Cloverfield premiere. You can see their TOS-style sideburns. Both actors need only change the way they comb their hair to more resemble Spock and Kirk.

The former USSR and most of the Eastern Bloc gets to see the movie before the US. Pavel should be pleased.

The characters in these movie posters have a little (PhotoShopped) Starfleet logo in their eyes, including Nero (see photo enlargement below).

Come on, JJ, how about an easter-egg PR campaign for the sleuthing Trekkie?

Spock shot is great - not sure about the retro look of the posters though - hopefully these are just basic give aways/publicity?

What's with the outit Pine is wearning - doesn't look like a uniform?

Interesting to see a new typeface though - and a revised site design - white.

What's with the random early dates for some countires?!

Well, here in Greece, movies ALWAYS come out on Thursdays. Thus the one day earlier release date. I'm assuming the same applies elsewhere. I saw Dark Knight on Thursday this past week as well.

And Denmark not having to wait for ages this time either?! Yay seconded.
Nemesis was annoying to watch in Denmark, it came out so late, knowing that Data was dead was almost impossible to avoid unless you stayed away from any Trek websites and some general ones for two months.

      Looks like they "forgot Poland"...
Good for me I'll have moved to Switzerland by then, but still, it's not nice to find out that my country is among the few excluded from the initial release.

Spock looks like Spock. good job JJ.

i guess the one in yellow must be Kirk, though I wouldn't know except for the yellow color..maybe when we see the hair it will look more like Kirk.

Guy in black is some bad guy, is that Nero???

Who is the girl in red, Uhura??? Is she that prominent in this movie?

They needed a character who wears a red uniform to go in the red section. Had they gone with Scotty (Simon Pegg), he would have been less recognizeable a character and the poster would have been a "white boys club". I think having a sexy nubian Uhura in the red section is the perfect balance.

I agree 100% with the "sexy nubian Uhura" remark. rawr. I hope Uhura gets to do more than answer phones and dance sexily (although that was certainly entertaining in 'Final Frontier').

also, i hate to say this, but Chris Pine looks sexy as Kirk in this poster. rawr. and i wasn't even a fan of the casting choice at the time. on the other hand, i am shallow and easily attracted to pretty, shiny things.

I think you're right and wrong. They could also have chosen a completely different look.

Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the villian would be the most appropriate for promoting the movie.

For them to CHOOSE a poster style that reflects 4 individuals and CHOOSE to use Uhura tends to lead credence to the idea she is more prominent in the movie. It would certainly seem so to the average joe on the street.

(if she pops off "hailing frequencies open" twice and we never see her again people will wonder out loud why she was on the poster)

I'm wondering where the image of OLD Spock is.

Imagine an image of Spock in his robes with his hands cupped together - a brilliantly white orb shinging in his hand with images of his younger self, kirk, the Enterprise, etc...kind of "the universe is in his hands"....

Not true. I remember seeing an early poster for Star Trek that featured Kirk, Spock and Yeoman Rand! Including a hot female in that poster showed this show wasn't just a "sausage fest". That's why I disagree with the simple notion that a poster HAS to include only the most important characters to the plot. The choice of Uhura to fill the red section of the logo was perfect fine IMHO.
