Pine doesn't look much like Shatner's Kirk, but Jeebus H. Christie! Quinto is dead-on perfect as a young Nimoy.

High quality PC wallpapers (and avatars) of these four movie posters are available at The Official Star Trek Movie website, in the Downloads section.

You get a much sharper view of Nero's features (he's hideous, look away!)

These posters are fantastic. I already knew Zach Quinto looked just like Spock, but I'm amazed at how much Chris Pine looks like Kirk. These pics are spot-on! Zoe Saldanna looks hot and Eric Bana as Nero looks oh-so-badass. I would not fuck with that guy. The tats are a very nice touch, and I don't miss the weird forehead-bones one bit. I never liked those, anyway.

The posters look fantastic. All the characters look great. And check out Nero. He is bad ass. WAY better than the look of the Rommies in NEM. A MILLION times better. Kirk looks excellent. This is the best pic of Pine we've seen.

And I'm not sure why everyone's talking about a Romulan ridge. There's nothing on Nero's forehead.

Finally, they've erased that inconsistency that TNG used! The Rommies and the Vulcans look the same.

I'm wondering about Nero's ear. I think it might be a battle scar, like the one on the top of his head. Man, I'm a geek.

In its report about this new movie poster, E! Online includes a quote from Abrams that sheds some light on what he means by saying there's a TOS "kitsch" that ST:XI won't hold on to...

"We all have the iPhone, which does more than the [Star Trek] communicator," Abrams said. "There's a kind of kitschy quality that must go, if it's going to be something you believe is real. Our Star Trek is not parody."

Aha, the gadgets will better represent what we now know can be done with microcircuits. Gotcha, JJ.

Abrams is an Apple fanatic, but his specific mention of the iPhone does tie into a rumor from several months back: "Rumor Mill : Star Trek Movie Using iPhone As Starfleet Communicator ?"

Pointed ears? Isn't the topic of this post Scarlett Johansson and the first two seasons of Mission Impossible being available on DVD?

All this focus on the pointed ears has me thinking. Usually they're just there and they're comforting in a way to the fans and all, but if you think of Star Trek from the outside looking in--as a means of herding the skeptical along to play in this kitchy world--focusing more emphasis to the iconic pointed ears of Star Trek--ripped off, pointing proudly, what have you--might have the ironic effect of disarming the skeptic.

...if I look at Nero's ear real carefully? It might still be pointed after all. It just looks like snow, or fur, or something is piled up on top of it that hides the point? Or maybe someone just went Hellboy on him and his points were clipped. :P

I didn't even recognize Bana. He looks rather different for a Romulan. Wonder what the tattoos are all about...and the mangled ear...is he a former slave I wonder? Or perhaps a criminal?

Loved the Pine as Kirk and Quinto as Spock posters. And Bana as Nero looks awesome and menacing. Good stuff.

Looks like Nero got his ears caught in a mechanical rice-picker.

Nero's forehead has a raised temporal-line that's more Klingon than Romulan. Possibly a mixed breed of Human, Klingon, and Romulan (or Reman)?

"Nero's forehead has a raised temporal-line that's more Klingon than Romulan. Possibly a mixed breed of Human, Klingon, and Romulan (or Reman)?"

Interesting...I'd assumed that was a scar, acquired in whatever injury left him with the mechanical-ricepicker ears. But you could be right.

Either way, even though it's just photographs at this point, I'm starting to think this film could turn out great. Kirk may have slightly bushier eyebrows and a pointier chin than Shatner did in those days, but he is definitely very Shatneresque in this photo--much more so than in any other photos I've seen of him. And they got Spock down so PERFECTLY, it's unreal. Plus, they both have pointy sideburns!

Uhura looks very Uhura-ish, too. (And quite hot, I might add.) Now I can't wait to see what the others look like, particularly McCoy and Scotty.

I still can't get over Spock in this photo. It's Leonard Nimoy's younger twin!

I wonder if they'll include Rand, Chapel, Mark Piper or any of Pike's crew...

The Romulan (and Reman) temporal-ridge curves backward, toward the side of the head. Nero's temporal-ridge curves forward, toward the front, like a Klingon.

Looks to me like Nero's eyebrow hairs extend way out (sideward) and up, à la the Mandarin-like Klingons in TOS.

His tattoo is reminiscent of early (Kahless) bat'leth designs and the Klingon curvy-pointy thematic in general (whereas Romulan and Vulcan glyphs tend to be swirly and rounded).

Nero could be a 23rd-century mongrel Klingon who's in cahoots with 24th-century Romulans.

Bat'Leth of Kahless (center). Compare all these curvy-pointy shapes with Nero's tattoo.

Interesting theory. And maybe he had his own ear points ripped off because he disowns that part of his heritage. A hybrid as a villain might work well as a counterpoint to Spock's personal situation.

Rumor says there are Klingon warships in this movie. Canon demands that Romulans not be seen by Humans or Vulcans prior to TOS "Balance of Terror."

The alleged 24th-century Rommies could reconnoiter Earth, unseen, in a 23rd-century Klingon ship that has Romulan cloaking technology. Even if Nero's vessel is detected, Starfleet would assume it's crewed only by Klingons.

A longer relationship between the Klingon and Romulan militaries would also address the canonically sloppy exchange of cloaking technology and the convenient interchangeability of ship designs a la The Enterprise Incident and their mutual fondness for birds of prey. Ha. Now if they could just address how two mighty empires came to be so inspired by animals indigenous to Earth while slighting their own. Double ha.

As far as teaser posters go, these look really good. I can see Kirk in Pine; Quinto has the Vulcan stare down pat, Saldana looks great (love the eyes) and Nero looks...interesting; definitely not your typical Romulan and I have no problem with that at all. Great posters, they definitely make me want to see more.

A few weeks back I posted a thread about the ncc-1701 website not changing at all and saying that the least they could do was throw us the tiniest of bones seeing that the movie got pushed back and all.

I am now quite contentedly chewing on my tiny bone.

Yeah, that's a cheap open invitation to make all the jokes you want...

The posters look good...I totally buy into Quinto's Spock. Jury's still out on the other two, but they don't look bad at all. As far as Nero...hrmmm...will have to see more before I can get too excited.

Thanks to Paramount, JJ & whoever else decided to release these. Keep the teases coming!!!!!
