Cinema Blend posted what they claim is the first description for the upcoming full trailer of J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie. Here is an excerpt of the description (beware of spoilers) :

Paramount logo shows (newly updated) and pans up into the stars... Then an incredible (new?) musical score begins which sounds as if a little of Trek 2 and 3 scores were blended in. Switches to shots of stunning starfields. Closeups of the Enterprise hull while voice-over begins. Narration from older Spock: "The needs of the many... outweigh the needs of the few.." quick pause... Younger Spock: "Or the one" (Quintos line seemed so Leonard Nimoy sounding!)Switch to shot of Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto standing together looking over a horizon at the Enterprise on Earth with an epic city in the background.

The classic Trek overture begins (sounds far more symphonic and far more intense). Narrator: "Next Summer Paramount Pictures Presents..." "The beginning.... of the greatest epic.... of our time" Music dramatically intensifies with numerous planets shown (special effects are mind-blowing).

Chris Pine (?) narration begins with music continuing to intensify while showing a space bound Enterprise.... "Space... "The final frontier...." Quick shots of Kirk, Spock, McCoy "These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise," Quick shots of Chekov, Uhura "Its mission (no 5-year mentioned), to explore stange new worlds.." Quick shots of Scotty and Sulu "To seek out new life and new civilizations.." Jaw dropping running shot of the Enterprise about to go to warp (hairs on me are standing on end) "To bodly go where no one has gone..." "Before"

Enterprise goes into warp, but the warp effect is new with more starfield movement going to warp and then an incredible warp sound and flash as the Enteprise hits warp speed. Star Trek overture continues Then the standard "This film has not yet been rated" appears Then ...Launch Date 5-8-09[...]

This information is preliminary, of course, and entirely rumor.

Much more at the full description at Cinema Blend.

UPDATE - RUMOR  DEBUNKED : TrekMovie.com has confirmed the description IS NOT for the next Star Trek trailer. According to studio sources, it is a fake.

I didn't need to hear it from anyone else. I'd bet my LIFE a trailer isn't going to start with a merely nostalgic and out-of-context quote from a prior Trek movie like the "needs of the many" quote. What the fuck does that have to do with ANYTHING? It's so obvious that a total fanboy wrote that.

Clearly it isn't obvious to everyone.. I mean, c'mon Gustavo! If you want activity on the website, just keep throwing "William Shatner" threads up on here.. all the banter between Trexx and I on those things should be more than enough activity for this site, lol.

Is that a reveal of how your brain scrambles what you read? What a mess.

No wonder you describe quotes from real moviemakers (Abrams et al) as "meaningless": You can't make sense of the written word unless its author still favors crayon.

The world is not smart enough for your level of vocabulary and syntax, don't worry. You are still the unquestionable genius you want us all to admire. Fortunately the folks here have a good enough sense of humor to laugh out loud when I mock you mercilessly. They got the joke, trust me ;)

A humble dictionary might unlock the great mystery of "vocabulary and syntax" for you.

Note that career moviemakers often encounter something called a script, which is the grouping of words to convey a message for the audience. Vocabulary and syntax are among the creative's dearest friends.

They've made a stranger of you, evidently.

Hahaha. Well, I know Gustavo's theory on this...he errs on the side of putting everything up. Hey, I don't mind...it's not like we have a weekly show or any Trek 11 tidbits to talk about. :) It's just odd to me that anyone could think that was real. And I don't get the motive for writing it in the first place. The person who wrote it, though, does NOT have a future in the writing business.

Is there any credible source for this whatsoever? I'll never understand why Trekweb presents baseless internet rumors in it's news section. But I guess as long as you use 'The Cavuto', then you dont have to stand by the reporting.

EDIT: Okay, now you've updated. See? Why even post these baseless assertions in the first place?

Well, we have always posted rumors, Jeremy, because you know, some of them could be true. But the majority of rumors turn out to be fake. As long as TrekWeb makes clear in the headline and the story that "this information is a rumor", I dont see any problems with that.

There are many people here who just like to complain. Posting rumors is absolutely appropriate on a fan site, provided they're labeled as rumors--which, obviously, this was.

The guys at Trekmovie have just deemed this bit of "news" as fake. So we can all calm down. In fact, if you had seen the following line on Cinemablend that preceeded the "description"? We could have saved ourselves some bandwith on Trekweb:

That first teaser really was just a teaser, and aside from a half-obscured shot of the Enterprise’s saucer section, it showed us nothing. Well that’s about to change, if the email I received this morning is to be believed. One of our readers claims to have seen the first, full trailer for Star Trek.

One of our readers? Uh huh..... sounds like 'gold' to me.

Yeah, but that's what we need. Mr. and ms. Beer-Sixpack don't watch Star Trek films. The fans do. Number 4 worked so well because they made a a good movie that appealed to Mr. and ms. Beer-Sixpack AND the Fans. Number two worked so well because it appealed to The Fans.

The so-called failures of Trek... films where the emphasis became 'more asses in seats so more ACTION' and less 'hey lets make these people think and feel'.

Star trek always works best when it appeals to our hearts and minds not just our wallets and our loins.

I doubt the accuracy of this rumor. I can't see them doing a riff on the lines from Wrath of Khan. If they're trying to reintroduce the franchise, referencing a catchphrase from 25 years ago isn't the way to do it. If that's the case, then they might as well make this a sequel to Generations and make it about bringing Shatner's Kirk back to life.

The rest of it sounds genuine - we know that Paramount and Abrams will be unable to resist having Pine say the monologue. And seeing the Enterprise in action is a no-brainer as that's been a part of every Trek film trailer just about.

But having them quote "needs of the many" has activated my "B.S." alarm.

In case you haven't noticed, this movie is likely to center around Spock. So why not hear his famous axiom in the movie preview? (Now if that wasn't fan boy, I don't know what is) Uh , I don't know about you but, I don't think Trek appeals to everyone , nor will it ever. However, if you can get the majority of even passerby trek fans, this movie could be a success. Its just that it needs to start anew. I happen to like the idea of a new cast for the original show.

Since it's been debunked, the point is moot. But the fact is Spock's famous axiom is only famous for Trekkies. Once again Paramount and Abrams and everyone else connected with this film have said that this is an attempt at making a Trek for everyone, not just us. And that means there are only 2 pieces of "catchphrase" dialogue that we can expect in this film: someone saying "beam us up Scotty" (probably as an ironic joke since that's the big Trek cliche), and the "Where no man ..." monologue. And probably a joke about redshirts. That's it.

Whether or not it's successful, that remains to be seen. But that's the way it's got to be, at least for this film.
