The lastest issue of SciFi Now magazine features an exclusive interview with Battlestar Galactica star Edward James Olmos. Here are a few excerpts.

"It's not a happy ending, we end up with almost nothing," the 61-year-old actor said about the series finale "Twenty years from now, people will see this as excellent post-9/11 television. It'll be marketed in a way that demonstrates sociological change for the time."

For the full interview with Olmos, pick up a copy of SciFiNow issue 17, on sale July 2008.

The latest issue of TV Zone Special, out in the UK, has an interview with Galactica actress Katee Sackhoff. Here is an excerpt from the article.

Die-hard fans of the 1978 Galactica series are the first to point out that that show's Lieutenant Starbuck was male, and played by Dirk Benedict. When the re-imagined version of the character turned out to be female and Sackhoff was cast in the role, many of those same fans were outraged. But ultimately, Sackhoff succeeded in winning over many of those who initially had doubts about her and the re-imagined Starbuck.

"It's nice to have people identify with a character that you're playing and appreciate the work you're doing," she says. "However, I don't think I went into this trying to win over the old fans because you can't ever please everyone. Also, I didn't want to focus on people who were all ready to, in a sense, spew negative energy at me. So I just kind of did my thing, and it's great that some people have been converted, and it feels rather gratifying as well. For those who said that the character wouldn't work with a woman, it feels good to know that, in fact, it did."

More from Sackhoff can be found here.

The full article can be found on the latest issue of TV Zone Special magazine, now on sale.

Galactica 1980 Best Episode | Report this post to moderator

Yeah, the "Return of Starbuck" episode of GALACTICA 1980 was awesome. Best acting from Dirk Benedict ever. But the rest of the series.....ugh. And dont remind me of Doctor Zee !

BTW, I also have BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25th CENTURY on DVD. Okay, it is true, I admit it.

I've got to admit I have "Buck Rogers" on DVD too. I haven't watched them yet, but I remember the first season as a lot of campy fun. They took themselves too seriously in the second season and it wasn't as interesting. Over all, a more enjoyable series than BSG-TOS and especially G-1980, IMHO, although the original BSG had its moments.

Regarding the original Galactica, I think that the pilot episode and the Pegasus episodes were pretty good. Very epic stuff. Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict are really good actors and had good moments in those episodes. Galactica 1980, welll, really sucked....

Buck Rogers first season was fun, but in the second season they tried to do a remake of Star Trek and the quality went downhill from there.

Still waiting when they will release the 1970s live-action Spider-Man series starring Nicholas Hammond as Peter Parker. Man, I loved that series !

I wanted that to happen for the longest time. Now though, I think it would be great if Galactica, the fleet, etc... gets destroyed in orbit, with the last remnants burning up in the atmosphere, possibly giving their lives in some noble sacrifice (most likely, it seems, saving Athena's child).

Or that it's populated by Cylons. I think others have suggested that before. After all, the final five have supposedly been to Earth.

Of course, what would really be fun--but will never happen--is if they get close to Earth, encounter a space ship, and receive a transmission: "This is Captain Jean-Luc Picard..."

Now THAT would be an unhappy ending, indeed.

Well, I am a bit ashamed to say that I have the GALACTICA 1980 on DVD. The horror. The horror.

No need for shame, Gustavo....unless you own a flying motorcycle?

There was one or maybe two episodes that were pretty good. The episode with Starbuck was great. Of course, its his fault that the Galactica has Dr. Zee. How incideous.

I have the TOS on DVD. The extras were pretty good. What cracks me up is even now I cannot look at Tom Zerek and not see Apollo. I will say this series had done great work of late so I am not as bad about it. Would still love to see a TOS remastered someday.

I hope it is not going to be something like they all die at the end. Maybe they arrive on earth, say, on December 21, 2012, hmmmm?

            You are a sick man.

Although I have to admit that I liked the Starbuck episode. The fact that I can even remember it after all these years must mean that it was pretty good.
