Entertainment Weekly posted a new interview with Star Trek The Next Generation star Patrick Stewart, in which he talks about his Tony Award nomination for Macbeth and speaks briefly about the upcoming Star Trek prequel movie. Here are excerpts from the interview.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Congratulations on your Tony nomination. When did you hear the news?

PATRICK STEWART:
Thank you very much! I was watching television.

I was surprised to realize this is actually your first time being nominated for a Tony. Are you surprised it's taken this long?

There have been a couple of disappointments in the past, yeah. But I'm not surprised. At awards time, you just have got to be as philosophical as possible. I've won, I've lost, I've been ignored, you know - I've run the whole gamut of experiences of awards! But this morning is a very, very special morning. It's always been a dream of mine to have a Tony nomination. It is the premier theater award, and for English actors, of course, it has a very special meaning.

What else do you have coming up? Any other projects in the works?

I do. I have an absolutely spine-tingling, awesome theater project that will happen next February when Hamlet is finished. But I cannot tell you what it is, because there's been no announcement yet. But I tell you, every time I think about it I get goosebumps.

Are you looking forward to seeing the new Star Trek film that's coming out next year?

Oh, I am! Yes, looking forward to it very much. And I know nothing about it.

Have the producers of that film been in touch with you at all?

No, no, no, no, no, no, no. It has nothing to do with The Next Generation at all.

The full interview is here.

Whoops, double post...

"I would be happy for Star Trek to come along decades later with a new group of minds. I'd love someone to say, 'Besides this one, Gene Roddenberry's was nothing!'" - Gene Roddenberry

"...I think it would be wonderful years from now to see Star Trek come back with an equally talented new cast playing Spock and Kirk and Bones and Scotty and all the rest, as they say tomorrow's things to tomorrow's generations..." - Gene Roddenberry

Shame you're not giving Spock a lift on the E, Pat...

Then again, there is still a year for reshoots, JJ...

    I don't know. Him saying:

"Are you looking forward to seeing the new Star Trek film that's coming out next year?

Oh, I am! Yes, looking forward to it very much. And I know nothing about it."

    and:

"Have the producers of that film been in touch with you at all?

No, no, no, no, no, no, no. It has nothing to do with The Next Generation at all."

all sounds a bit fishy. I mean the guy didn't even ask if it had to do with TNG or if he had information and yet he responded like that right away. maybe he does have a cameo and just can't come right out and say it.

Plus, it does have something to do with TNG - it starts in their era.

Congratulations on your Tony nod, Patrick! You are more than deserving of a win, however. Best wishes.

I hope old Spock brings up Capt. Picard's name in the movie! BTW, Patrick, the movie is suppose to start in the TNG era right after NEM (if the sources are correct). Would love to see the 1701-E one last time on screen :)
