Star Trek Movie Ready to Go Into Post-Production, Says Paramount Rep

According to a report posted today at the redOrbit website, a crew is wrapping up a shoot on private property at Highway 119 and South Enos Lane for the upcoming Star Trek movie prequel. Here are excerpts from the article.

"They need to work quietly and confidentially so they can get their work done, so next year, we can enjoy a great movie and know portions of Kern County were included in that," said Board of Trade Executive Director Rick Davis "That's what the office stands so proudly behind."

The location is a stand-in for Iowa, Captain Kirk's home state, said a Paramount Pictures representative, who provided information under the condition of confidentiality.

The Bakersfield landscape plays a small role in the movie.

"Iowa usually looks pretty green, so that's what we were looking for," the rep said.

Shooting began Monday and the crew will move today to a part of the property away from the road. Filming should wrap up this week, then the movie will go into post-production, she said.

"This is not your father's 'Star Trek,'" the rep said. "It's a whole new cast, a whole new group, completely different from anything people have seen before and hopefully the old fans will like it as well as garnering new ones."

None of the lead actors are out on the property, and there's no real action in this scene, just moving shots, she said.

Nov 23Chuck returns to NBC with a special two-hour show on Sunday, Jan 10, 2010, before returning to its regular time slot, Mondays at 8pm on the following night. It's return to prime time television can be attributed to a successful fan renewnal campaign last year. CHUCK is a one-hour, action-comedy series that follows Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. This upcoming season will include some special guest stars, including Brandon Routh of "Superman Returns" who will play CIA agent Daniel Shaw in an episode, and the addition of SUBWAY restaurant as a major advertiser to the show. Chuck averaged a 4.0/6 rating last season, about eight percent better than the recently cancelled "Trauma". Ratings-challenged Heroes moves back an hour when Chuck returns on Monday nights. Gotta agree with Terry here. MI3 was awesome. Had some great action, the music was well done, and was competantly directed, and is considered to be the best of the trilogy. It's quality was a large reason Paramount felt comfortable giving their last big franchise to Abrams.

Rotten Tomatoes agrees with us. MI1 got 67%, MI2 got 57%, and MI3 got 71%. I remember when the Abrams announcement came out, I was like, "well, if it's as good as MI3, that'll be awesome."

As far as May releases go...I think maybe it is slower than June and July because people aren't on vacation yet AND because studios hold back bigger movies until June, etc. HOWEVER, I think if there are good movies to see, people will go see them. I mean, if Indiana Jones was only showing at 3 a.m. on Tuesdays in March under a blanket, it'd do great. The fact that May 2009 will boast Star Trek, Wolverine, and Terminator 4 will, I think, motivate people to head to the theatres on weekends in May.
