New Voyages Episode Starring George Takei Nominated for Hugo Award

The Star Trek New Voyages (Phase II) fan series episode "World Enough and Time," starring George Takei as Hikaru Sulu and written by Marc Scott Zicree and Michael Reaves, is on the Hugo Award nomination list for best Presentation, Short Form.

The episode is already nominated for a Nebula Award.

In a transporter accident, Sulu spends 30 years on a planet and has a daughter. Now he is found but saving the ship may mean losing his daughter.

The nominees in the "TV" category (Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form) are

  • Doctor Who "Blink" Written by Stephen Moffat Directed by Hettie Macdonald (BBC) 
  • Doctor Who "Human Nature' / "Family of Blood" Written by Paul Cornell Directed by Charles Palmer (BBC) 
  • Star Trek New Voyages "World Enough and Time" Written by Michael Reaves & Marc Scott Zicree Directed by Marc Scott Zicree (Cawley Entertainment Co. and The Magic Time Co.)
  • Torchwood "Captain Jack Harkness" Written by Catherine Tregenna Directed by Ashley Way (BBC Wales)

I agree that this is groundbreaking for the fan series. Too bad it's up against the unstoppable Doctor Who episode "Blink" which should take this unless the vote gets split with the Human Nature two-parter.

    Don't count World Enough and Time out just yet . . . there's a lot of days and a lot of votes to count before this is all done. New Voyages/Phase II has a rather spirited way of surprising people . . .

This is a real testament to what the fan community is capable of! Hugo is a true honor--well done!

The Hugo Award nomination is for Best Presentation--Short Form, however, and not for Best Script as the story mentions above. The script nomination was from Nebula.
