ComingSoon.net posted the following set report from the new Star Trek movie, from a sccoper named 'brnbro63'

If anyone is interested, the new 'Star Trek' movie began filming at Cal State Northridge today. Looks like they are filming a scene at an academy/school because everyone is dressed in same crimson uniform. There is also a very cool car/cart that was driven onto the set, looks like miniature 3-wheeled version of Mach 5/ Star Trek insignia.

The original report can be found here.

Plus, AICN posted more spy photos from the Trek set, which appears to confirm the ComingSoon report. The photos show various cadets in red uniforms at the academy, with a large blue screen in the set, and even a pic of the of futuristic car mentioned in the ComingSoon report (see below).

You can find more and larger photos here.

Recall that closer shots of the gray uniform were scarfed by JFX Online in December of last year. It was presumed to be "Officer's formal wear."

Some rough-quality spy photos, just posted here, show the Aptera vehicle is driven out into the yard among the actors, so it may appear in the movie.

More zoom-and-crop images: Looks like the ladies in mini-skirts and go-go boots were encouraged to wear their hair up in a bun. Not quite beehive...

I reckon the only thing you can do about replacing your Super-Duper Decoder Ring is eat another 47 boxes of Star Trek Coco Puffs.

Here's a zoom-and-color-enhancement of what's believed to be part of the Enterprise bridge console. From what I think I see -- glowing blue gauges and a big red rocker-switch -- it's a kitschy nod to classic sci-fi. Shiny...

We saw a LITTLE bit of a bridge console in a chat transcript on trekmovie.com about a month ago. Abrams is sitting with his back to the camera, chatting on a laptop that rests on a console that is assumed to be on the bridge. It was neither a TOS or TNG era layout, nor did it resemble something from ENT. And it wouldn't hold up, close-up. (But that's nothing new)

I like the outfits

I like the car

I like the window dressing

(could live without the Forbidden Planet hats, oh well).

I like the look of the open-air "set"

Does that make me a Paramount Corporate Ho?

Just wondering. :-)

That's a lot of extras for a Trek film.

In TOS, a jumpsuit is usually only seen on civilian workers or non-commissioned crewmen, so this garb isn't what we expect to see for Starfleet from that time-frame.

Whenever JJ Abrams strays from canonical TOS designs, I hope he strays toward the classic science-fiction which inspired Gene Roddenberry. In particular: Forbidden Planet (1956).

Looks to me like this could be the case -- first with what (little) has been shown of the kitschy new Enterprise bridge design, and now with these Academy uniforms.

As we all know, wheels are BANNED in the 24th century! They did this in Nemesis and we know what happened there!

Stormfront all over again? | Report this post to moderator

Uh oh, I don't particulary like the car design anymore after seeing more pictures of the car. But judging from the various uniforms I would say it fits in. This reminds me of "Stormfront" or something along the lines of it.

Not trying to be overly pessimistic and negative, but I find the uniforms a little tacky and unimaginative, but perhaps a closer inspection will reveal more detail and creativity.

Much like the monochromatic charcoal uniforms worn by Army cadets at Westpoint today, these appear to just be the uniforms worn by Starfleet graduates/cadets. There was a post a while back by a guy who saw the Playmates toy prototypes, and it would appear that the duty uniforms the characters wear on board the ship are very close to what was worn on the Original Series.

All the ladies are in red micro-skirts, and the men are in grey (militaristic looking?) uniforms. Not the unisex mentality we've grown accustomed to lately.

I really like the futuristic car design...

Not all the ladies. In fact there are a few who look like they might be wearing World War II-style skirt uniforms!

Remember, though, the "unisex look" is primarily associated with post-TOS. TOS had miniskirts. The Cage and Where No Man, however, did not. So I would expect there to be a mix of styles.

The "futuristic" car design is actually an Aptera which will hopefully go into production very soon. Hopefully the car is not in the movie since it would make the movie a little dated before it was even released. :)

Visit aptera.com if you want more info on the car.

Males are required to go "commando", so it kinda balances out. ;-)

Actually, if you look carefully, you'll see females in jumpsuits too. In the following zoom-and-crop image, there are five females wearing the long-legged jumpers (two red, three gray). There are also females in gray "militaristic" skirt and jacket...

The time stamp on the photos says they were taken on 18 March. It is obviously daytime.

BUT, look at the time Trekweb, and other sites started carrying the pics... 18 March - in the early pre-dawn hours!!

Something is amiss and does not add up!!

Thoughts...!?

Until Next Time...

that someone's got the date set wrong on the camera, or they set it a day ahead for the date to be as current as possible knowing they'd be on the net on 3/18.

The shutterbug must've been swept up by some temporal anomaly. This surely confirms the rumor of a time-travel story!!!!!!

Also obvious: Starfleet Academy uniforms were inspired by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police...
