Chris Pine Says He Modeled His Young Kirk After Harrison Ford

By GustavoLeao / 22:36, 10 March 2008 / Star Trek: Nemesis

IGN posted a new interview with Star Trek star Chris Pine, who plays the new James T. Kirk in the upcoming Trek movie prequel. Here are few excerpts.

Pine says that in seeking inspiration for his Kirk, he has not looked to William Shatner's Captain Kirk, but to Harrison Ford's Han Solo and Indiana Jones.

When asked who he would like his incarnation of young Kirk to most resemble, Pine responded, "I would definitely say Harrison Ford in either Indiana Jones or Star Wars. What Harrison Ford is so great at doing is bringing that quality to his characters that if they could be anywhere else in the world they would be there, but he is not, he just is in the middle of s*** and he has to figure out a way of dealing with it so that he can go back to doing whatever the hell he was doing before the film started.

"I've always loved that quality about him in Star Wars, this sense of absolute grumpy manner; the accidental hero. Not to say that I modeled my version of James T Kirk on anything in particular but I think I definitely have wanted to bring that kind of Harrison Ford humour to Kirk."

The original article is here.

You can watch Harrison Ford back in action as Indiana Jones in the trailer of the upcoming sequel Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull at YouTube.

It's return to prime time television can be attributed to a successful fan renewnal campaign last year. CHUCK is a one-hour, action-comedy series that follows Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. This upcoming season will include some special guest stars, including Brandon Routh of "Superman Returns" who will play CIA agent Daniel Shaw in an episode, and the addition of SUBWAY restaurant as a major advertiser to the show. Chuck averaged a 4.0/6 rating last season, about eight percent better than the recently cancelled "Trauma". Ratings-challenged Heroes moves back an hour when Chuck returns on Monday nights. STAR TREK VOYAGER's Robert Duncan McNeill serves Chuck as a supervising producer and director.0

I am not saying he SHOULD emulate Shatner's performance, that would be just a parody. I'm just saying that it sounds like Pine, unlike the other new actors, is distancing himseld from Shatner and wants to make a whole new character who happens to be named Captain Kirk.

Captain Kirk is not Han Solo.
