HeraldSun.com.au posted a new interview with actor Eric Bana, in which he talks briefly about the role of Nero, the Romulan villain from the upcoming Star Trek movie prequel. Here is an excerpt from the article.

According to the site, Bana described the role as a cameo. "It's just a great character, it's J.J. Abrams. It's a really well-written script, great part. Couldn't say no. I don't actually look at the size of parts ever."

The full interview can be found here.

Nov 23Chuck returns to NBC with a special two-hour show on Sunday, Jan 10, 2010, before returning to its regular time slot, Mondays at 8pm on the following night. It's return to prime time television can be attributed to a successful fan renewnal campaign last year. CHUCK is a one-hour, action-comedy series that follows Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. This upcoming season will include some special guest stars, including Brandon Routh of "Superman Returns" who will play CIA agent Daniel Shaw in an episode, and the addition of SUBWAY restaurant as a major advertiser to the show. Chuck averaged a 4.0/6 rating last season, about eight percent better than the recently cancelled "Trauma". Ratings-challenged Heroes moves back an hour when Chuck returns on Monday nights. STAR TREK VOYAGER's Robert Duncan McNeill serves Chuck as a supervising producer and director.0

The autumn days swung soft around me, like cotton on
my skin. But as the embers of the summer lost their
breath and disappeared, my heart went cold, and
only hollow rhythms resounded from within.

"How is Shatner the big ego over it all, when Abrams never showed him the script and never offered him a role?"

Abrams is under no obligation to do so, and (as other posters have pointed out multiple times already) there exist some compelling reasons not to. That particular expectation is only maintained by a handful of actor-infatuated fanatics who want this movie to fail for not catering to their narrow-minded desires.

"There is only one reason Shatner isn't in the movie--Abrams doesn't want him in it."

Actually, the matter is a complex one involving multiple influences, the most significant of which are the problems inherent to credibly acknowledging what occurred on-screen in "Generations".

"The Generations excuse doesn't cover up for this debacle."

The only "debacle" here is the extended temper tantrum that a tiny minority of fanatics have been throwning over a single casting decision.

Shatner was right: Get a life. The sooner the franchise rids itself of the embarrassing and destructive albatross you continue to embody, the better.

Are you really William Shatner in disguise?

Don't you ever get tired of repeating the same thing over and over again?

Re: Shatner's ego: Well, supposedly Shatner said that he wouldn't do a cameo. Whether he said that BEFORE or AFTER being offered one, is unknown.

As for not showing him the script: As you may have noticed the security on this project is really tight. They don't wanna let any details get out before they deem it is a good time.
That's why auditions were reportedly done using scenes from Star Trek novels, not from the movie itself. Most actors didn't get to see their pages till days before the shoot. Actors not cast most likely didn't see a single word of the script.
Since the part for Mr. Shatner most likely wouldn't have been big there was no need to show him the script.
There were some talks between the producers and Shatner (early last year if I remember correctly). I'm sure they talked about what they had in mind in general. Whether they invited Bill just to get his okay to re-cast the role or whether they offered him a cameo back then -> nobody knows.
