HeraldSun.com.au posted a new interview with actor Eric Bana, in which he talks briefly about the role of Nero, the Romulan villain from the upcoming Star Trek movie prequel. Here is an excerpt from the article.

According to the site, Bana described the role as a cameo. "It's just a great character, it's J.J. Abrams. It's a really well-written script, great part. Couldn't say no. I don't actually look at the size of parts ever."

The full interview can be found here.

Another possibility is that he'll be set up to be the big bad for the movie, and everything will move towards the final confrontation with him. Sort of like how Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire kept pointing towards the confrontation with Voldemort, but we never actually saw him in person until near the end of the movie.

I still hope the writers are being careful here. "Balance of Terror" is one of the most beloved TOS episodes and if this is a canonical film and it contradicts some of the major points of that episode (the biggie being no one in Starfleet had actually seen Romulans before - and the Enterprise TV series managed to avoid this jackpot, fortunately) it could make some of the canon-bending in Enterprise and Nemesis pale in comparison. Trekkies have proven on several occasions that it doesn't really matter how good or bad a film is -- it's whether it fits canon.

But then the current plot rumors could leave the door wide open, so I have no clue what to think.
