Anton Yelchin on J.J. Abrams Vision and Klingons - Minor Spoilers

Features

By GustavoLeao / 14:15, 1 February 2008 / Star Trek: Nemesis

Rotten Tomatoes posted a new interview with Star Trek movie actor Anton Yelchin, who plays the new Pavel Chekov in the prequel. Here are few excerpts from the article. Beware of minor spoilers.

"I talked to J.J. [Abrams] a lot about what he wanted. His thing was we're not making something that's supposed to be the old Star Trek. He's making his own movie but there is a bit of, like, I think people want to see what they love so we're all trying to find things that will remind people of the old characters. So it's been interesting picking up on little things."

Yelchin reveals that he spent most of his time on the starship. "Chekov is just on the Enterprise. A lot of it is green screen. I mean, the Enterprise itself, J.J.'s trying to shoot as much of it as he can with out green screen, but I think a lot of space is obviously green screen -- what I'm looking at while seeing the Klingon warships."

More from Yelchin can be found at the full interview.

UPDATE : TrekMovie.com has learned that the new Star Trek movie will indeed include Klingons. The site has received some reports that the movie does involve some kinds of battles and/or a war and that "Klingon soldiers" play a part in the film.

Quote from OV-101:
Maybe he has mistaken a Klingon ship for a Romulan?

Yelchin confirms earlier rumors about a Klingon presence in ST:XI.

Klingon warships, equipped with Romulan cloaking technology, are used by Rommies in TOS third season.

For some earlier period of time, Starfleet might not have known that Klingon ships may be crewed by non-Klingons. The Romulans could have used this secrecy for reconnaissance or assassination missions, without revealing themselves.

Maybe we won't see the Klingons in ST:XI, just their warships used by Romulans.
