Actually, Spencer Daniels is just barely 14 if his official site can be believed. ;) It lists his birth date as December 23, 1993, which means he just turned 14 about five weeks ago. I had to go see who he was since I'd never heard of him and no picture was linked here.

On the topic of Trek brats, er, darling offspring...

Since James "Scotty" Doohan's son Chris will have a bit part, let Shatner's daughter have a cameo role in ST:XI.

Melanie Shatner appeared as one of the little girls in TOS "Miri", and as a Starfleet yeoman in ST:V.

Potential for some interesting backstory? | Report this post to moderator

I wonder how long will it be before our resident tantrum-throwing crowd starts whining about the casting Bennett but not you-know-who, let alone finds a way to once again bring up the ‘lying and disrespecting the fans' myth?

A scene between the young Kirk boys is a pretty risky proposition. It has good potential, but could also be downright awful. I hope Abrams can pull it off and give some interesting insight into the development of the character we all know and love.

Kirk was cool from the get-go. Based on the pic he enjoys the occasional Bacardi and Black Sabbath.

Ironically, now there's a ring of truth to Captain Patti/Scorned/SuperLanternPrime/rfjason's Tiny Toon TOS comments!

Do you think it'll be pushing believability if they have Kid Kirk and Small Spock run into each other?

This may confirm an early interview by Leonard Nimoy... | Report this post to moderator

MINOR SPOILERS
.
.
.
that there will be 3 Spocks. (Him, Zackary Quinto, and probably a kid Spock, just like there's a kid Kirk here)

I like the fact that the movie seems to span several time-frames and follows Kirk from childhood. It really has the "Batman Begins" and "Superman" feel to it.

Considering how much the writer's love the novels, I wouldn't be surprised if the novel "Best Destiny" was used as a "vague reference" to the George Kirk storyline. Will we see senior Kirk serve on the USS Enterprise as well?

--------

"We're standing by to beam your survivors aboard our ship. Prepare to abandon your vessel."
"No – no, that is not our way. I regret that we meet in this way. You and I are of a kind. In a different reality, I could have called you friend."
"What purpose will it serve to die?"
"We are creatures of duty, captain. I have lived my life by it. Just... one more duty... to perform."

- Kirk and Romulan Commander

I think it's obvious that young Kirk and his brother will be touring the construction grounds of the new "Enterprise" ship - inspiring him to command her at some point years later.

I was thinking the same thing. That would tie in to the scenes of the Enteprise being built and Orci has often said that he's a fan of the novels. It could even be a short pre-title sequence before the credits roll.

Yeah, Commander George Kirk was Captain Robert April's first officer in the novels Final Frontier and Best Destiny. I would love to see elements of that in the movie, it would be cool.

See? This role would have been perfect for Bill Shatner.

But JJ lied, and Star Trek died.
