Several weeks ago, AICN posted a image claiming it was the first picture of the redesigned U.S.S. Enterprise from J.J. Abrams upcoming Star Trek movie. But then CGI artist Gabriel Koerner confirmed this was actually one of his designs and not the Enterprise from the movie.

Then, the first real pic of the new Enterprise was revealed online, showing the saucer being built, but people are still thinking that Koerner design is the new ship from the movie.

"Star Trek (Reborn) is getting emails from people that think 'In the Harsh Light of Fate' is the script--or at least part of the script--for Abrams film; and the only reason they think that is becuase they also think Gabe's design is the Enterprise in the upcoming movie." said Jeremy Grunloh, creator and writer of the online fan series Star Trek (Reborn), which uses Koerner design as their starship.

"I think they're quite beautiful. A lot of nice work." Star Trek movie co-writer Roberto Orci told TrekMovie.com about Koerner design and images "You just can't deny the SHAPE of the ship, which is so great - so elegant."

Finally, Koener wrote the following message at TrekWeb message board :

"I am not involved in Paramount/Bad Robot Star Trek feature film directed by J.J. Abrams in any way, material or immaterial."

"My speculative designs and artwork have been mistaken for official production art because they share in concept the design assignments to the art department of this film."

"However, they are not, nor planned to be, nor ever planned to be, used by the production as official redesigned interpretations of Star Trek spacecraft, and there are not plans for this to change."

Well said, Gabe.

So, there you are. TrekWeb hopes this puts an end to this rumor.

Everyone keeps raving about his design but it's a rip-off of the Ambassador class. I can't be the only one who sees that, right?

"Everyone keeps raving about his design..."

That's because 'everyone' (but you) is stupid.

    "...it's a rip-off of the Ambassador class. "

Well, yeah, because anything that has a saucer, nacelles and a drive section is a 'rip-off' of the Ambassador class...obviously.

    *rolls eyes*

Do you have vision problems or are you just resentful of Gabe's success?

I think the Ambassador class kicks Ambassador ass.

    Image

I don't really think Gabe's design rips it off, though. The Ambassador design is much closer to the Galaxy class, albeit better looking.

I agree. I thought the 1701-C was a much better looking ship then the D. I wish TNG would have had a couple of Constitution refits in battles somewhere. That would have been cool!

This isn't "news." You might as well make a news headline that says "people still think the moon landing was faked." Actual news would be "the moon landing was faked." Sillyness.

Oh well, at least we have yet ANOTHER link to that STR site posted here... Pssh.

"Oh well, at least we have yet ANOTHER link to that STR site posted here... Pssh."

    What the hell?

For the two years 'Star Trek (Reborn)' has existed, Trekweb has featured a grand total of one full news-item referencing it: this one (although there was an early 'Tribblet'). And while I dont remember what it was about, the only other time a Trekweb news-item included a link to ST(R) was because there was a story involving Gabe's design, and there's pictures of it there.

Further, I dont even have a banner-link to ST(R) in my signature, unlike your free ENT game...which means you blatantly advertise it with every post you make.

    "This isn't "news."

Yes, it is. Because it's a story that concerned an increasingly popular--though false--notion about the new film (which pertains to the interests of fandom).

"You might as well make a news headline that says "people still think the moon landing was faked."

Actually, that would be a story worth covering, as well as people that believe 9/11 was an 'inside-job', because a good number of folks actually do believe such things. The phenomena of people who continue to believe in demonstrably false ideas, in spite of evidence to the contrary, is a human interests story and would in fact be well worth a full expose on 60 minutes or Bill Moyers Journal.

Do you really think they've completed the special effect visuals yet this early in filming? They usually do those last. You won't see a shot of the ship until at least April. Trailers will appear with visuals in May most certainly. No, it's not the Gabe ship because they have not filmed shots of the ship yet.

The teaser with the shipyard was made special for the teaser and doesn't actually depict a scene in the movie. Thats why it's a teaser, to tease us.

    A link to what?

Do I sense some bitterness in your words? Really, why not?

If someone, and it this case, the Trekweb editor, wants to put a link to promote a website, mostly since you're always free to click on it or not, I don't see the harm.

It's not like it's a huge ad popping in you face with aggressive flashes!

As for the news item itself, I think it should be clarified. Yes, it's not necessarily "news", but hey I think we're both pretty silly posting about this shit, mostly when real news should preoccupy us a little more...And I'm not talking Trek news.

It is news when you have websites reporting this rumor as fact, to the point where one of the writers of the real film have had to comment.

I said in the thread someone created requesting this announcement that no number of "rumor killers" will stop the endless tirade of "we don't believe what the official word is, we'll believe what we want to believe" but at the same time, THIS particular piece of bullshit is getting a lot of play so, yeah, posting a news item saying it's bullshit is just as much a piece of news as the 642nd press clipping of Shatner saying "it'll be a good movie, too bad I'm not in it."

Well a lot of people I talk to snicker and dismiss the idea of a new Trek film because they still believe it to be an Academy film. I can't tell you how many people I've talked to that still think that. And they don't want to see the film because of it. Should we make a "news" item for every bit of misinformation out there?

Besides, the site that reported the Gabe/design thing did that a while ago. Like I said, it is not news at all.

This article is kind of an experiment - it was a request by Jeremy and several members of the TrekWeb message board. I want Jeremy to interview Gabe Koerner, but decided to write the article myself. I hope this ends those awful rumors and posts about Gabe involvment in the new movie.

It was definitely news that Trekweb should be at the forefront of reporting. Fandom is awakened, if this doesn't prove anything else.
