IESB posted a video interview with actor Karl Urban, who plays the new Leonard "Bones" McCoy in the upcoming Star Trek prequel movie. Here is a transcript, cortesy of Sci Fi Pulse
When asked about the secrecy surrounding the movie he openly compared the movie to what he experienced when he made Lord Of The Rings.
"The security is phenomenal, the paranoia is extreme."
When talking about the press interest Urban revealed some of the measures which the actors are having to take in order to protect J.J. Abrams creative vision from getting out to the fans too soon.
"We have to go on set wearing like jackets to cover up our uniforms. We go in like these pope mobiles to that you can't see through," said the actor in reference to the insane security measures, but added. "You know what? I think its for a good reason because when this film comes out its going to blow peoples minds, and it would be kind of a shame if certain things were spoiled along the way. So its all for a good reason."
When asked about how he will interpret the role of McCoy. Urban revealed that the script is pretty faithful to the characters that were originated back in the 60's, and that he would be taking his cue from that.
"The characters that is written in the script is very faithful to what was created back in the 66 and everything that the wonderful DeForest Kelley did to imbue his character with that great compassion for humanity that sense of irascibility. I think that the long time fans are going to be very happy with this film."
Urban also revealed that fans would enjoy a nod to some of McCoy's colourful sayings such as, ‘Damn it Jim, am a doctor not an escalator'.
"There's definitely going to be, as I said a lot to satiate the long term fans in this film and this film is going to be so ballistically exciting that I think its going to draw a whole new audience in."
When asked about the first time he wore the Uniform Urban described the experience as cool. As to the first time he stepped foot on the Enterprise Bridge, "Oh my god wait to you see the Enterprise. It's amazing. I mean you haven't seen a ‘Star Trek' movie like this before. I mean its just like ‘Star Trek' High Def."
