IESB posted an exclusive video interview with Star Trek writer Roberto Orci, conducted on the Paramount Lot  during the world premiere of the J.J. Abrams-produced movie Cloverfield. Here are few excerpts from the video interview.

Orci took a few minutes and chatted with IESB on the black carpet. There has been plenty of rumors about Star Trek storyline details online, since a few months ago IESB reported on alleged storylines that involved elements from the TOS episode "The City on the Edge of Forever" such as the Guardian of Forever.

"I love "City on the Edge of Forever" said Orci when asked if the rumor is bullshit "You mean if it is part of [the movie]....no."

Orci said the he read about this rumor and even the knows the fact that the episode writer, Harlan Ellison said the rumor was not true.

Asked if there is time travel involved in the plot, Orci said "Who knows ? [laughs] Who knows if there is time travel involved. But if there is, it is original."

"If you know your Trek, and you know your canon, your knowledge will be rewarded." Orci said "The trick is to make it to fans and non-fans."

You can watch the entire video interview here.

...should be used again. Star Trek 12?

ANOTHER time travel method? | Report this post to moderator
By: VZX (Odo's file, contact) @ 05:38:15 on Jan 18, 2008

He implies that the timetravel method used in the new movie is original, so now we have another Trek time travel device. Aren't there enough, already? I mean, we got slingshot around the sun, the guardian, the Bajoran Orb of time, time-travling aliens, timeships from the future, and I'm sure there are more.

With so many time traveling methods, you'd think that the bad aliens would have really effed up the universe by now.

They should have went with the Guardian. It would have been a great nod to the old show (and be cool to see it on the big screen) and avoid using more time traveling methods since there are enough already.

"Orci denies THIS, Orci denies THAT." I'm telling you, he's the new Brannon Braga. We will all rue he and Kurtzman's names this time next year.

Watch the video. Orci was reluctant to even discuss this. Braga would be stonewalling right now instead of denying these hack ideas.

I have to say, aren't we passed shitting on Braga all the time? It's too convenient a toilet for the average rabid fan. Time and canon will judge Braga's good against his bad (and there is some good).

The King and His Prince are dead. The fans can finally rest in their blood-spattered pj's confident that the beaten horse is indeed thoroughly dead.

    Time to move on.

Yeah, you're right. Berman and Braga are history. They did their job - sometimes they got it right, sometimes they got it so wrong. No need to bash them again and again. Lets move on. I am not a fan of JJ Abrams and Roberto Orci, as everyboby here knows, but I am keeping an open mind about their Star Trek.

Really? And here I thought that all this red meat being tossed to the movie-boycott-movement was just "reporting of news".

        Thanks for clearing that up.

No Guardian of Forever in Star Trek XI ? Geee, I am kinda disappointed. Well, at least we have Of Gods and Men.

The Guardian rumor was originally leaked from Of Gods and Men, not from Trek XI, but they got them confused.

As for the rumor that the crew will be at the academy at first, that might be closer to true, unfortunately.

Speaking of time travel, I could use a Guardian of Forever right about now so I could travel to Dec. 25th, 2008. Screw trying to save the universe, I just want to see this movie.
