MTV posted a brief interview with Cloverfield director Matt Reeves, in which he talks about the Star Trek movie trailer which will be attached to his upcoming monster movie, also produced by J.J. Abrams. Here are excerpts from the interview.

According to the Latino Review, the Star Trek teaser trailer shows the Constitution Class U.S.S. Enterprise being built.

"I think people are going to be very excited," he said, offering a sneak preview. "It's a teaser, you know, it's a teaser trailer. But still, I was like ‘Wow!' Just the scope of it, the scale of it, you just look at it and it's so elegantly done."

"It's one of those things where J.J. has a lot of ideas come out of [the fact that] he has a very simple, forceful way to express himself while capturing people's imaginations. I think what [he and his producers] are doing with the trailer is fantastic; this is a great way to reboot the franchise, and get people excited about something new."

"That's what excited me about seeing the trailer, was that I thought ‘Well, this does look completely different and new,'" he said. "But while having all the stuff that will make fans of ‘Star Trek' still feel fulfilled."

"I've seen little bits of the movie too, and I feel that way as well," the director said. "He's doing an amazing job; it's very exciting. It's not your grandfather's Star Trek, that's for sure."

"I would be happy for Star Trek to come along decades later with a new group of minds. I'd love someone to say, 'Besides this one, Gene Roddenberry's was nothing!'" - Gene Roddenberry

"...I think it would be wonderful years from now to see Star Trek come back with an equally talented new cast playing Spock and Kirk and Bones and Scotty and all the rest, as they say tomorrow's things to tomorrow's generations..." - Gene Roddenberry

It's not your grandfather's Star Trek.

Ouch! That hurts! Why do they have tp keep on saying that? I want to like this movie, I really do! But comments like that just make me throw-up in my mouth a little. Y'know, they should just not say anything at all, good or bad.

He is just trying to sell his monster movie to the Trek fanbase. From what I read so far spoiler wise on various sites it sounds pretty stupid. There are a few good rumours running around but again if any of the 3 that I have read are true, wait for the movie on satelite on night you got nothing to do.

Comments like "It's not your grandfather's Star Trek, that's for sure." don't do ANYTHING to interest me about seeing Abrams new Superman ummm Trek movie.

I'm not a fan of trailers because they usually pick the worst elements of a movie to show off, but I'm curious to see this new approch to Trek. It could be great.

I'm really, really curious to see this trailer and I'm amazed that nothing has leaked out yet. I actually like the fact that it's different - a retread with the exact same look of the old show would feel dated and pointless to me. Here's hoping it all turns out well.

Cool. Colour me excited. Of course, this guy will only say positive things about the movie but I am nevertheless excited for this. It is with a cautious enthusiasm that I await the new Trek film.
