Alan Ruck (Captain Harriman) Previews Star Trek Of Gods and Men

Features

By GustavoLeao / 13:10, 16 December 2007 / General Star Trek

The release date for Part 1 of the upcoming fan film Star Trek Of Gods and Men will be this week on December 22nd. To celebrate, we posted an interview with actor Alan Ruck, who played Captain John Harriman of the U.S.S. Enterprise-B in the 1994 feature Star Trek Generations and now returns to the role in the upccoming fan film.

"We had to shoot under physically distressing circumstances !" Ruck told Issue 3 of the Star Trek Magazine "We were all used to working in really optinun conditions in studios and this was like guerrilla film making, in a set in upstate New York. The studio was owned by James Cawley - it's where the New Voyages videos were made."

Regarding the story, Ruck reveals "The personalities of Chekov (Walter Koenig) and my character, Harriman, have changed 180 degrees. The whole world is upside down. How would Chekov have turned out if the world  had been a different place ? It's a great 'What If' story. And it was fun for me to revisit the character of Harriman. There is a negative stigma attached to him because  in some way, he was responsible for the death of Captain Kirk. It was fun to explore that."

Working with actor/director Tim Russ was terrific, according to Ruck "We had a great time. He's a wonderful actor and he was great as Tuvok."

Ruck saw the fan film trailer and said "It looks fantastic. A lot of the special effects haven't been laid in yet but seeing it so far, it looks good. Most people seem very excited by what they've seen. I'm happy with it."

You can see a video interview with Alan Ruck, in which he talks about Star Trek Generations and Star Trek Of Gods and Men, here.

Agreed. I always felt bad for that character. The first captain of the Enterprise after Kirk. Come on! That's gotta be rough. And not only that, but yeah, Kirk dies on his first mission as Captain...of the Enterprise no less. I'm surprised Harriman didn't commit suicide.

Talk about a Kobayashi Maru scenario.
