In a new video interview for his Shatnervision blog, Star Trek star William Shatner talked some more about his exclusion from the new movie and his feelings about not being able to reprise his role of Kirk in the new movie. Here is a transcript of the video interview, cortesy of Sci Fi Pulse.
While speaking to his daughter Lisabeth for Shatnervision, the actor related his thoughts and feelings about his exclusion from the new movie and reiterated that despite his lack of involvement he wishes all concerned the best.
During the course of this brief interview with his daughter Shatner confided that he is the type of actor who just finds it painful to watch himself.
"I've never watched a Boston Legal, I've rarely watched a Star Trek. Even when it was on and have not seen any of the movies. I don't watch myself. It's painful. When I direct and have to look at rushes of myself I suck."
When asked about the new Star Trek movie Shatner revealed that he was a little hurt by the fact that J.J Abrams can't use him in the story.
"It wasn't really hurt as much as it was a case of, ‘How can you not put one of the founding figures into a movie which is resurrection? I was there at the birth and I wanted to be there at the rebirth. I would love to have been, but I don't think I can take it personally it's when they're telling the story, and they couldn't include the character, well that's to bad and doesn't make good business sense. I've become even more popular than I was playing Captain Kirk. Am good Box Office and I get publicity like this, we're talking about the movie, which is publicity for the movie. I could have done a good job for them but they're going in a different direction and it will be a wonderful film."
When asked about his new Star Trek prequel novel Academy Collision Course and if his good friend Leonard Nimoy has taken time out to read it. Shatner joked.
"Nimoy, my good friend Lenny doesn't read my books but I look at his because he's got pictures and I've got words. It's more difficult for him." Joked Shatner.
The original report can be found at Sci Fi Pulse.
You can hear what Shatner had to say in his latest blog at Shatnervision here.
