According to FreezeDriedMovies, 27 year-old actress Rachel Nichols, currently starring in the parking garage thriller P2, has been cast in J.J. Abrams upcoming Star Trek prequel movie.

No info on which role Nichols has been cast, but according to online speculation, it could be Janice Rand (played in The Original Series by Grace Lee Whitney), Number One (Pike's first officer, played by Majel Barrett in The Cage), Chapel (also played by Barrett) or maybe even a Romulan or a love interest for Kirk

Nichols worked before with Abrams on Alias.

This information is preliminary, of course, and entirely rumor.

The original report can be found here.

Nov 23Chuck returns to NBC with a special two-hour show on Sunday, Jan 10, 2010, before returning to its regular time slot, Mondays at 8pm on the following night. It's return to prime time television can be attributed to a successful fan renewnal campaign last year. CHUCK is a one-hour, action-comedy series that follows Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. This upcoming season will include some special guest stars, including Brandon Routh of "Superman Returns" who will play CIA agent Daniel Shaw in an episode, and the addition of SUBWAY restaurant as a major advertiser to the show. Chuck averaged a 4.0/6 rating last season, about eight percent better than the recently cancelled "Trauma". Ratings-challenged Heroes moves back an hour when Chuck returns on Monday nights. Well, I don't think being pretty necessarily makes you shallow. Let's hope Abrams looked for attractive people who fit their roles and could act.

Unlike with some of the young men being cast, I don't hear any of you straight guys comlaining she's too young and pretty for a part in the movie. ;)

I think she's beautiful and would make a great Rand.

Actually, I do have a complaint. Am I the only one who feels the actors chosen for roles in this movie are too, well, shallow and pretty faced? Sure hope they can act as well as look good.

You know, if Marcus is in the movie, I would love to see a scene with her reading the Bible. The Book of Genesis to be exact. It would be great foreshadowing...

I agree with some of the others, seeing her as Carol would be sweet as hell.

Carol Marcus? | Report this post to moderator
By: onlytrekkieinCT (Odo's file, contact) @ 21:34:01 on Nov 01, 2007

I've been reading the forums for years now. This is my first post, so don't chew my head off please!

I believe it was in "Where No Man Has Gone Before" that a blonde love interest of Kirk's at the Academy was mentioned. And I don't recall if it was Nick Meyer or not who said that Carol Marcus was supposed to be that blonde. AND Spock knows Carol Marcus (transporter scene after the Genesis cave).

I've been thinking for a while that Carol should be in the movie, even if Kirk's role is limited. So I thought, why not let this be my first post.

I just watched "Shore Leave" last night and there was a woman named Ruth from Kirk's Academy days. Not sure if she's the one you were thinking of or if there's another woman in the other episode. Knowing Kirk I'm sure there are several options from his past.

Mitchell mentions something like "that blonde lab technician I sent your way" or something and Kirk says, "That was you? I almost married her!" so many have supposed that the woman may have been Carol Marcus.

Rachel's smokin', so she could be Rand or Marcus.

If she is playing Yeoman Rand I do dearly hope they get the hair right. The little partial cone shaped weave on the top of her head is second only to Princes Leia's Cinnamon rolls in the anneals of Sci Fi chick hair doos.
