Access Hollywood posted a brief interview with Star Trek star Zachary Quinto, in which he talks about the recent reports that actor Chris Pine is in talks with the studio to play the new Kirk in the upcoming movie.

"I know Chris," Quinto said. "I think he is a phenomenal actor. I would certainly love to work with him and I feel like he would be a really strong choice."

Quinto also told the site that the movie will begin shooting in just a few weeks "[Things kick off] pretty soon actually. We start like, in a month."

The original report is here.

Shatner and Nimoy Vs Pine and Quinto | Report this post to moderator

If Quinto thinks Pine would be great, then that’s good. But it will be almost impossible to reprise the Shatner/Nimoy amazing chemistry and charisma.

So with Kirk nearly in place, and Spock on board, and only McCoy waiting for a player, this new movie is ready to start filming. Here is how I grade things this far...

Quinto as Spock
A+.
Look at Nimoy from The Cage and Quinto and it is very uncanny. Even Takei agrees with the casting, and that guy is Mr. Trek Negative!

Chris Pine as Kirk
B+
I like this choice, if it comes true. I think he looks enough like Kirk, and my daughter suggested him months ago. He has been filming a movie in the mountains of San Bernardino and a friend of the family is playing his son in that movie. So based on that? Great choice! First time I have talked to my daughter about anything Star Trek in years. (and that is exactly what Paramount wanted)

Chekov/Uhura
B and B+.
Not much to go on, but I think they are just fine. Great casting.

Bana as NERO
A+. This guy is a great actor. Even ooozes Romulan looking at him.

Rumored Storyline
B-..yes, like some of you I have issues with the rumored plot. But having said that, I will wait for judgement until I see it. Saving a pair of whales named George and Gracie sent my warning flags up back then too.

This movie is starting to generate buzz. It is being produced by JJ ABRAMS, a great selection in terms of someone who has their pulse on what is relevant in terms of story and character driven stories at that.

The movie is also having the effect of offending long time old fans who stick to past continuity (Capt Patsy comes to mind). So...all in all? I believe all indications are in motion that this movie is going to be far better than Insurrection/Nemesis were. A new day is coming....the enema is in final prep stage!!!

Chaotic
Raising Star Trek fans to another level...
