Rene Auberjonois Says Deep Space Nine is Over

Features

By GustavoLeao / 20:02, 8 October 2007 / Deep Space Nine

The latest issue of SFX magazine, just out in the UK, features a brief interview with former Star Trek Deep Space Nine actor Rene Auberjonois, now a regular on Boston Legal. Here are a few excerpts.

Would you ever want to go back to the role of Odo ?

I think it's over. One never says never, but I can't imagine it happening, so I don't really think about it. I'm a character actor and I played a lot of characters before I played Odo and I've played a lot of characters since I played Odo, so I just keep plying my wares.

Where do you think Odo would be now ?

He's in the goo. Whatever he's doing he's there, taking care of business with his people, trying to get them to not be so paranoid.

Would any of Odo's skills have helped you in real life ?

In a sense I have some of them because I'm a character actor !

I disagree. I think a DVD movie could very well capture the essence of the series and be very sucessful. Sort of a DS9 Relaunch, just like in the novels. Just look at sucess of the Babylon 5 DVD movie. Paramount is missing the target here.

Oh, don't get me wrong Gustavo, I think they could totally pull it off. I just don't think Paramount/CBS will do it. Sadly. But you never know. I guess any chance of that happening depends a lot on how ST XI does.

I've always thought that DS9 could have been like Law and Order with a constant shuffle of characters.

But if they are going be done as far on the cheap as B5 I'd rather they didn't.
