OK, I'll say it:

They should've put Denise Crosby on one of the discs instead of Q.

Get a brain, Morans!!!

Yeah, either her or Diana Muldaur. After all, Dr Pulaski was around longer than Tasha.

When I was 12 I wrote a letter to Playmates Toys bitching that there were figures for the Vorgons, who appeared in only 1 episode, and said very little, but ignored the loud-mouthed Dr P. They wrote back and enclosed a photo of the unfinished, unpainted sculpt of her figure, which was to be released later in the year.

As much as I like the Tasha character, Q is a much more memorable TNG character. He had far more impact on the series' progression, and I'd put him above Yar in a list of TNG staples any day.

Almost always, DVD sets go for a LOT less than the "suggested retail price." I'm sure that if the SRP is $400 that Best Buy or Wal-Mart will have these sets for around $289. I remember recently when the special editions of the movies came out. Many had a SRP of $24.99, but I remember getting ST:VI for $14.99 somewhere.

I've never bought any of the STNG season sets, and for someone who hasn't they might make for a nice gift. But with the increasing rumors that the CBS folks are planning to remaster the FX in some of TNG shows, I think I'll just cool my heels and wait a bit. I will be buying TOS in its remastered form this coming November.

Why So Much Money? | Report this post to moderator
By: ericerickson592 (Odo's file, contact) @ 19:28:11 on Sep 18, 2007

Why are star trek series so expensive? Most major tv shows usually cost about $50.00 Star Trek voyager and Enterprise cost about $110.00 dollars in Texas. I think that $400.00 for this show is a waste. I could see maybe paying $200.00 hell you can by the whole show individually for about $350.00

Hell, I got the "complete series" box of "Buffy" (not exactly an unpopular series) for $140.

Maybe, maybe not. Depends if ParaCBSBorg wants to spend the money to completely redo the F/X or not.

I think it also depends on how TOS- Remastered sells as well. They put money into redoing the f/x on TOS they may use it as a basics for a TNG-Remastered project

It is going to be a hell of a lot more expensive to remaster TNG for two basic reasons...1) A whole lot more episodes to redo and more importantly 2) The prints are on Video instead of film. That will make it even more expensive to remaster. May not be impossible but I don't think there will be a short of complaints once everone has recovered from the sticker shock after seeing the $$$tag of a HDDVD/BR set. The whole idea makes me shiver.

The master tapes of the TNG, DS9 and Voyager actors are all on film, not video. The F/X and final editing were done on video. If we take the term "remastering" at it's face value, there isn't a problem.

You are confusing "master tapes" (the edited, soundmixed and color-timed finished episodes) and the original, unedited footage.

And in this particular case, the master tapes are on video, and not on film.

So in order to remaster TNG, DS9 and VOY in real HD, you'd have to retrieve all the original film footage, and go all over the editing process again in HD (not to mention a possible reframing of every shot, since the HD aspect ratio is different...).

That alone is a huge amount of work, and makes a real HD re-issue of these series highly improbable.

I bet you that ENT, which was edited directly in HD, will be re-issued first.

Where these the same extras which came on the previous TNG sets? If so those are terrible, although most Star Trek extras are. Only The Making of "All Good Things..." seems somewhat enlightening, even though it is from 13 years ago. I think I still have it recorded to VHS somewhere. And what is the deal with the packaging? Why does it look all Nemesis-y and Green? Why couldn't they stick with the traditional TNG lettering and color scheme?

It will sell? | Report this post to moderator
By: Groulx (Odo's file, contact) @ 18:06:19 on Sep 18, 2007

I am not complaining for the sake of complaining and it might be even predictable that the very first comment on this article is not positive... but this is literally another repack. Wow.

No new features that would make it even remotely attractive? Not remastered in HD? No updated effects for Season 1 or 2?

Not even the effort to change the DVD menus (still including the Nemesis trailer!!!)

No deleted scenes? Outtakes?

Just freakin' Wil Wheaton in another boring filler documentary.

They just released all these box sets!

Maybe this is the last ditch sale before releasing a remastered set in a few years?

Why not just wait and release the remastered set?

I love this f*cking show, and it's the reason I poke around these websites... such a shame that they are sitting on top of all this material and won't release it or do anything meaningful with it.

I have to agree with you. Ron Moore would have so many insights into this show. They should bring together as many writers, including the amazing Melinda Snodgrass to talk in-depth about the episodes they worked on. No 2 minute interview; I mean 20 minutes or so. What's so special about these new formats if they're not going to give us more? I have a feeling HD DVD won't add much and that saddens me.

Who cares. Just another chance for them to part you from your hard earned cash. Just watch. The HD Version will be next. Then all the movies will get a re release in yet another set.

Ah well 'A fool and money is easily parted I guess'.

I have all the series on DVD anyway. I waited a few years for the last releases of it to come down in price and then got them.

So this fool and his money will not be parted for this new set which is just essentially a re release with a few added bits.

I only have TOS, TAS and TNG on DVD. DS9 is next on my list (only have the fifth season, a gift from Steve). Have no interest in VOY or ENT.

I'd buy Voyager if I could get the seven seasons for the same price as my Buffy TVS "Chosen Collection" box.
