"I know nothing. It kind of...makes me feel bad. I know nothing. I know less than you people out there because I don't read about it, I am not paying much attention to it. So if you hear anything send us an email so you can tell us whether you hear of any information. You know how the tabloids pay for gossip information about celebrities, well celebrities are now paying for gossip information about studios."

That has to be it..You have all been raised by Televison's quick fix mentality and its 'now now now' generation...you're all just various versions of Paris Hilton. Spoiled because you can't get what you want when you want it....

I remember the good old days. Going to Star Wars and not knowing what it was even going to be and was floored. Or JAWS, or Close Encounters...

You people need to be medicated and taught that sometimes..SOMETIMES...the best things in life are those we know little about...

And then...if the movie comes out and sucks as bad as INNSURRECTION or NEMESIS I will join with you and bash ABRAMS as we did Logan and Baird...but not now...not now...keep your fricking phasers holstered for now...geee...

Hear, hear! I'll never forget (nor, to some degree, forgive) how fandom passed judgement on Nemesis a year before it came out, and thereby created a self-fulfilling prophecy out of a film that was no classic but was still better than Insurrection, Search or Spock or The Final Frontier, at least. People are so willing to unholster their phasers (good analogy, that) that they seem to have forgotten the value of patience.

It's not just Trek, of course. Look how many people were utterly convinced that BSG, Doctor Who and Casino Royale were going to suck and they were all proved wrong, bigtime (but since BSG, Who and Bond fandom is nowhere near as powerful as Trek fandom, we didn't see any self-fulfilling prophecies, thank god).

I agree with you on most points. But I have to say Nemesis was a real dog. True, it's better than Final Frontier - but that's true for almost any movie.
Especially after Casino Royale, I think a reboot should be given a chance. I was skeptical early on, but looking at the sad state of the franchise, I think it's the only hope.
If the reboot bombs, it's not like you lose much. There is virtually no fan base left for ST movies (sadly).

I totally agree..and I think BSG and CASINO ROYALE were pretty good. In fact, I like this new Bond guy. They totally rebooted that franchise and it made good money.

So...you can reboot, and do it right. But if TREK comes out and it sucks, then yeah, go ahead and bash it.

I really get sick of these fans demanding things like "whats going to happen" "what canon are they going to follow or not" "I hate so and so as Kirk"...blah blah blah...its mind numbing stupidity...

I think you all should just SHUT UP | Report this post to moderator
By: Glassman Cometh (Odo's file, contact) @ 06:54:35 on Jun 09, 2007

The moron level on this site is getting higher each day. Listen up MORONS!!!...SHUT UP! Has it dawned on you, and I guess it hasnt, that the reason they are being so secret is because EVERY Star Trek plot has been let out of the bag even before shooting has started..perhaps, PERHAPS, they want to surprise us with what they are doing? And what is so fricking bad about that?

Some of you may want to know every aspect of this movie BEFORE it even is offically started. Well get this..THE REST OF THE WORLD DOESN'T...

When I hear things like "we don't know anything..blah blah blah.." well..so what? You aren't the writer or producer or director of this movie so YOU SHOULDN'T know...you, and I, are the paying public..you can whine all day long about not going to see this movie, and? well...okay...but please...wanting to know what the plot is...who is in the movie...where is it being filmed..ENOUGH already...you're worse than BARRY MANILOW fans and I know...I have one for a wife!!!...

I think you should practice what you preach....

There is nothing wrong with fans wanting to know what the hell is going on with STXI... So WHAT if I want to know something more about the film then some 2 line comment written in TV guide.

This "all secret" approach and with all his "Lost" buddies are nothing to brag about. Answer a few questions, it won't kill them. What are they afriad of? They must be scared because the approach (ie idea) is stupid.

Abrams may very well be right. The only way to get a Trekkie to see a bad Star Trek movie is to make them go into it cold... Not even any previews or trailers. The movie poster should stay just the way it is: gold and blue with the insignia.

I'm not asking to know the frakkin' plot, just a basic summary or who's going to be in it (or not to be in it in the case of Shatner/Nimoy) or if it's a reboot or some little information to tease us to the movie. Think about it, production on the movie will be around 3 months, post will be at the very least 6 months, so that's 9 months total and if the movie comes out in December 2008, that leaves us 3 months before filming. Euh... hello? 3 months before filming and you have no idea who are your actors? Please! Stop bullshitting me! If you don't than you've got a big problem and the movie will never be out on December 2008.

I believe information should be released on a 'regular' basis before a movie comes out to keep public interest. The thing is, this movie was announced such a long time before it's actual release that to release 'regular' information, either they drag it out and it seems like they have no idea what they're doing or either they release too much and then everybody know the whole plot before even entering the projection room. The bad strategy here was to hype a movie that was almost 3 years from release so the hype falls flat instead of hyping it closer to the release and building slowly every month or so so that when the movie comes out, people are psyched and not 'oh, that movie they talked about a couple years ago... must be bad because I didn't hear anything for 2 years'. But that's Paramount's fault. God knows Paramount can have crappy ideas.

Well, are we talking real "public" interest here or just the online fan community? Your average movie going public doesn't need to know about a movie until about a year until its release at the most. You really can't start to hype anything up for a film until you have some serious audio and video.

I agree with what you're saying, even if I don't agree with the way you said it.

First of all, people gotta lighten up. It's only a movie based on a 41-year-old TV show, for chrissakes. It's not going to end world hunger or cause an increase in global warming or destroy/save the planet. So let's get some perspective on this. There are far more important things to worry about on this little ball of rock than a movie.

Second, I personally want to be surprised by this movie, and pleasantly so. The dreck that was Nemesis left a bad taste in my mouth, and I tried so hard to avoid all the spoilers and mis-information put out by Paramount (they're really good at that) so that when I went into the movie it would be a blank slate for me. I would hope that, given J. J. Abrams' stated respect for the subject matter, that he would attempt to do a movie that paid proper homage to the original while setting it on a new and exciting course into the future. And I don't really want to hear a great deal of information (true or otherwise) coming from Paramount, Abrams, Shatner, Nimoy, or anybody else. I'd like to know who's being cast, sure - everyone would be interested in seeing a movie if one of their favorite stars was in it. It may not keep me from seeing it if there's a bunch of unknowns in it, but it would be nice to know. However, detailed plot summaries, pre-production pictures, even minutiae regarding the design of the hand props and whether the bridge of the Enterprise really is rotated 36 degrees to starboard - who cares? Let me soak all that up later, AFTER I've paid my $9 or $10 to see the pic. Let me either love it or hate it, but let me base that on my actual VIEWING of the film, not on stuff posted on the Internet in the months leading up to the premiere.

And third, some of you have way too much time on your hands. Get a hobby, or a girlfriend, or some sort of life.

Shatner Knows more than he is saying | Report this post to moderator
By: NEXUS (Odo's file, contact) @ 05:47:37 on Jun 09, 2007

Didn't he have meetings w/ JJ Abrams?

And didn't Shatner go on record as saying Abrams wants him in the film?

My bet is Abrams didn't want Shatner going public with that infomation + asked him not to speak about it until they make more information public.

    Greetings:
Maybe Shatner really doesn't know, but it's more likely the web guy making that Shatner site doesn't know. Still, I suspect the reason it's hush-hush isn't so much because of secrecy as it is they really don't know. Abrams might not even have a direction for this film. If nobody is even cast yet, and they're looking at late 2008, they're in trouble. The studio should be filming in early 2008 to make the deadline. He didn't say it was a secret. He said he doesn't know. So maybe all the speculation, right down to a prequel idea, is just that, speculation, and nobody in entertainment has any idea what Abrams will do.

I just hope Abrams has watched enough good Star Trek to be able to make a good story, and that he understands Roddenberry's vision. It would be terrible if it turned into a BSG clone or a Lost clone, or MI3 clone.

Fans complained about Nemesis because there wasn't enough character and the villain was weak compared to other villains, and the story was too focused on the battle scene. This was because Baird and Logan only did action pictures. They had no idea what Star Trek was about.

As long as Abrams understands "where no one has gone before" and puts adventure and character together, with character driving the story, it will be good.

He should consult Moore and Behr too, and the Okudas, and make sure it works. Since he is smart, he has probably already done it.

Maybe his press people are reading all these comments and are going, oh crud, they don't want a preqiel? They didn't like Enterprise? Oh no! What the heck are we going to do now?

So it doesn't surprise me that Shatner's web guy doesn't know. It;s not like he'd tell you. But I doubt it's an attempt of secrecy. After all, the net is like an opened floodgate of info. If there was any real news, someone would have leaked it. Not that I'll want to read leaked info ande spoil it.

Too many secrets doesn't sit well.. | Report this post to moderator

With all this "hush hush" I think it is a bad sign for STXI. I think the direction they plan on going is going to piss off a lot of the Trek fan base.

I am hearing way to much praise with no substance. The very same thing Rick Berman used to do. So far I am not looking forward to this mess at all.

I kind of agree. It's been what, a year now? And all we know for certain is that JJ Abrams is involved, along with his Lost buddies. Oh, we also know it's set in the TOS time period, but we can't even say for sure that it's a reimagining (just some bits of declarations that make it sound like it). Can we get some real news now? A general synopsis, if even it just says 'Kirk, Spock and McCoy team up for the first time to investigate a spacial anomaly near Vulcan aboard the USS Enterprise'. I mean, we don't even have that much yet... What about casting? Obviously they've started looking if they're aiming for a December 2008 release...

C'mon, stop the mysteries already. Don't make Lost out of Star Trek, because one dragging show is enough for me at the moment! It's not mysterious anymore, it's more like 'we don't have a frak's idea where we're going but we'll keep hyping it up because we'll eventually figure something out'...

I agree with your guys.... There are too many things that are just saying that this movie will suck.

A prequel movie after the failure of the prequel TV series. It doens't matter if it is abrams or not. It is still a stupid idea.

      Give us a new cast....

You people are complaining because we have heard little about a movie that is still nearly TWO years away? This really takes the cake!

I, for one, look forward to being surprised as much as humanly possible in this internet age by ST:XI.

I think a huge factor of why the last two Trek films did so poorly is that we knew everything that was going to happen a year and a half before it was released. I didn't even bother to see Nemesis in the theater, I just waited for the DVD.

JJ & Co. seem really good at keeping spoilers under control, at least they are for Lost and that's a show that makes you scream out for spoilers, lol.

I think the secrecy is a GOOD sign.

Filming is a few months away. The movie is a lot closer to release than Batman II, and at this point we knew about Heath Ledger as the Joker.

With something as big as Star Trek, to not answer the Shatner question at this point and to even keep HIM in the dark, is terrible.

HE of all people has a right to know.

We're not asking for the plot or a copy of the script, but it's time to answer the Shatner/Nimoy question. Well passed time.

Um, Kirok, Batman II as you put it or "The Dark Knight" is out in July 2008, isn't Abrams trek movie out in June 2208 or slated for fall of 2008? I don't know where you got your false info from.

HE of all people has NO right to know. I don't know what makes you think Shatner deserves to know anything about the film. I like the man but he's an actor, after all. He had his meet-and-greet with Abrams - an actor talking with the producer/writer of the project. And if Abrams wants to pursue him for a role - great, then both parties talk further and negotiate terms; if not - Abrams owes nothing to Shatner. This is a business - and that's all STAR TREK is - an entertainment product.
