J.J. Abrams Sends A Message To the Fans at Creation Grand Slam

Features

By GustavoLeao / 16:32, 14 April 2007 / Star Trek: Nemesis

Star Trek XI producer/director J.J. Abrams sent a message to the fans at the Creation Grand Slam convention this weekend in Burbank, which was read to the crowd by Richard Arnold Saturday morning. Here is a transcript of the message, courtesy of Trek Movie Report :

Dear Grand Slammers,

We are currently in pre-pre-pre-production and are all beyond excitement and honored to bring you the next chapter in the Star Trek saga. There will be much more to say at next year’s convention, but for now know that we are working hard to do you proud. Thank you for your support and for keeping Mr. Roddenberry’s vision alive

Best,

J.J. Abrams

Also, according to site, Arnold told the crowd at the convention that he discussed with Abrams how he felt that some of the later series of Trek got away from Gene Roddenberry vision, noting that former Star Trek producer Rick Berman once described the early Star Trek series as ‘pollyannish’. Abrams reply to that was "I think we can all do with some pollyanna."

The original report can be found here.

It's return to prime time television can be attributed to a successful fan renewnal campaign last year. CHUCK is a one-hour, action-comedy series that follows Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. This upcoming season will include some special guest stars, including Brandon Routh of "Superman Returns" who will play CIA agent Daniel Shaw in an episode, and the addition of SUBWAY restaurant as a major advertiser to the show. Chuck averaged a 4.0/6 rating last season, about eight percent better than the recently cancelled "Trauma". Ratings-challenged Heroes moves back an hour when Chuck returns on Monday nights. STAR TREK VOYAGER's Robert Duncan McNeill serves Chuck as a supervising producer and director.0

I was there this weekend and seeing from the turnout I can't see there was or is much interest in a new
Trek film. The auditorium was half full for ever Trek guest.
I think Abrams, whom I am a fan of, is doing a dis-ervice to the franchise and predict the film will fizzle at the box office.
