J.J. Abrams Sends A Message To the Fans at Creation Grand Slam

By GustavoLeao / 16:32, 14 April 2007 / Star Trek: Nemesis

Star Trek XI producer/director J.J. Abrams sent a message to the fans at the Creation Grand Slam convention this weekend in Burbank, which was read to the crowd by Richard Arnold Saturday morning. Here is a transcript of the message, courtesy of Trek Movie Report :

Dear Grand Slammers,

We are currently in pre-pre-pre-production and are all beyond excitement and honored to bring you the next chapter in the Star Trek saga. There will be much more to say at next year’s convention, but for now know that we are working hard to do you proud. Thank you for your support and for keeping Mr. Roddenberry’s vision alive

Best,

J.J. Abrams

Also, according to site, Arnold told the crowd at the convention that he discussed with Abrams how he felt that some of the later series of Trek got away from Gene Roddenberry vision, noting that former Star Trek producer Rick Berman once described the early Star Trek series as ‘pollyannish’. Abrams reply to that was "I think we can all do with some pollyanna."

The original report can be found here.

Rick said that? I thought it was John Billingsly who used (or invented?) this term to critisize Star Trek. I don't even know what it means, really.

Pollyanna was a fictional girl who saw everything in a positive light.

Basicly Rick Berman (or John Billingsly) was saying Star Trek was always upbeat and positive with every cloud having a silver linig.

Star Trek's most unique quality is the bright take on the future. IMO its also the most endearing quality.

I agree!
