The latest issue of Starburst magazine, just out in the UK, features an exclusive interview with actor Alan Ruck, who played Captain John Harriman of the U.S.S. Enterprise-B in the 1994 feature Star Trek Generations and now returns to the role in the upccoming fan film Star Trek Of Gods and Men. Here are few excerpts.

"I was happily surprised that someone had written something about Harriman again," said Ruck about the fan film "Some people were, like, "Oh, they should have expanded your character, they should bring him back, they should give him the Enterprise-B again' and all that kinda of stuff. We'll whatever - I'm just an actor, I do what thet tell me."

Some fans still blame Harriman and Ruck for the lost of Captain Kirk in the opening sequences of Star Trek Generations. Ruck said "I played a part in that. And some people have a grudge. Some people are pissed, and then I have to say there are a equal number who don't feel the least bit bad about it."

Ruck is impressed with the ambitious plans for Of Gods and Men. "So this thing is an experiment, in a way, it is like a pilot" he said "It's really, at this point, a speculative venture, and CBS is like, "Well, it's no skin off our nose. It's private money, you can get these people to be in it - it's all on your dime'. They are basically saying it's the producers " So go ahead and if something happens, maybe we will talk."

CHUCK is a one-hour, action-comedy series that follows Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. This upcoming season will include some special guest stars, including Brandon Routh of "Superman Returns" who will play CIA agent Daniel Shaw in an episode, and the addition of SUBWAY restaurant as a major advertiser to the show. Chuck averaged a 4.0/6 rating last season, about eight percent better than the recently cancelled "Trauma". Ratings-challenged Heroes moves back an hour when Chuck returns on Monday nights. Did I read that right? Did someone actually consult CBS/Paramount prior to producing this fan film? And did CBS/Paramount say "we'll talk"?

I really don't think anything will result from this, at least in terms of any new TV incarnation for Trek. The new JJAbrams movie will probably lead toward that. But it would be interesting to see if CBS/Paramount decided to dip a toe in the fan film waters if OGAM is successful. I could almost see them making some contribution toward Star Trek: New Voyages or some other fan-produced series, only in order to increase Trek's visibility prior to the release of the new movie. To them, $50K would be a drop in the bucket, but it would go a long way toward helping someone complete a worthwhile project (especially if the equipment, sets, and costumes were already amortized, as in ST:NV).

With so many of Trek's former stars involved, I'd imagine SOMEONE spoke with Paramount about the legal issues involved in their participation.

"Serenity" is the movie "Star Wars" prequels wish they could be.
