Features

By GustavoLeao / 10:29, 12 November 2006 / Star Trek: Nemesis

Star Trek star William Shatner revealed more about his recent meeting with Star Trek XI producer J.J. Abrams at a fan convention in Springfield, Massachusetts on Saturday night (Nov. 11). He was talking about the film Generations when he made this comment.

"I had a talk with J.J. Abrams a while ago and they were writing a new script – and we are all hoping it will be wonderful." Shatner told the audience "And he said, they were going to get the Kirk and Spock characters in there. And I said, "How will you do that, I'm dead." (laughter). I said, "That's a problem." So, they are wrestling with that death, OK."

Thanks to 'Ray Kelly' for the submission.

It's return to prime time television can be attributed to a successful fan renewnal campaign last year. CHUCK is a one-hour, action-comedy series that follows Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. This upcoming season will include some special guest stars, including Brandon Routh of "Superman Returns" who will play CIA agent Daniel Shaw in an episode, and the addition of SUBWAY restaurant as a major advertiser to the show. Chuck averaged a 4.0/6 rating last season, about eight percent better than the recently cancelled "Trauma". Ratings-challenged Heroes moves back an hour when Chuck returns on Monday nights. STAR TREK VOYAGER's Robert Duncan McNeill serves Chuck as a supervising producer and director.0

They could also address it briefly in dialogue between Kirk and Spock, and set the story several years after Kirk's revival.

That would bring Shatner back, but also allow them to launch quickly into a new story and introduce the new characters without having to make it into Generations II.

In any event, Shatner as Kirk and Nimoy as Spock, even just for a few minutes, would be a great way to generate a lot of buzz and interest in this relaunch.

Shatner as Kirk would also bring a lot of people I know who have not been to a Trek film since '91 into the theater. They don't visit or post here but would buy tickets, dvds, books etc.

Shatner's popularity is high right now, Paramount could benefit from that.
