William Shatner Yet to Rumble with J.J. Abrams, Rumors Run Out of Gas

Features

By TRexx / 00:40, 14 September 2006 / General Star Trek

Under the glow from Leonard Nimoy's announcement of Paramount's courtesy call (story), the Web has been abuzz with rumor of contact between William Shatner and J.J. Abrams.

The Shat has chosen to directly dispel all the random rumbling. At his official website, WilliamShatner.com, he whiffs the recent hearsay as something akin to odorous hydrogen sulfide. Shatner poetically pronounces that he hasn't yet heard from Abrams.

"I know nothing except that where there's rumblings there's gas, and in this case the gas is coming from J.J. Abrams and none of it seems to be directed in my direction. If any gas comes my way, I will post it immediately and you all will know. Until then, hold your breath -- because this gas is odiferous."

Aye, aye, captain. Stink alert acknowledged.

To take a breather, strike a match for a good cigar and interlude with Shatner's Q&A in Wired News...

Wired News: We recently learned that the Original Series will be broadcast again with updated special effects. Do you have any take on this plan?

Shatner: I forgot to mention that. TV Land is going to be playing the old series, re-broadcasting. In the same way that you just asked me how did I feel ... I'm getting the same feeling right now, about the re-energizing, the rebirth of Star Trek.

Wn: It looks like a few of your fellow cast members from the Original Series and a writer from the Original Series have been participating in a fan-made series called Star Trek: New Voyages. Have you seen it, or any other fan versions of Star Trek?

WS: No, I haven't. Have you seen it?

Wn: I've seen some fan stuff, but not New Voyages. Any possibility of you signing up with New Voyages for an episode or two?

WS: Not the slightest chance.

Wn: Do you have any other projects coming up that you're excited about?

WS: Yes, there are, a lot. Boston Legal is back on the air sometime this month. I'm working on a new set of Star Trek books, this time involving the young Captain Kirk and the young Mister Spock. Then there's a project called The Shiva Club which I'm hoping I can do next summer.

The new season of Boston Legal premieres Tuesday, September 19 at 10/9c on ABC.

Classic Star Trek - The Complete Original Series (Seasons 1-3) DVD is on sale in the U.S.A. and Canada.

This is not reality. This is fiction.

You can't travel at warp speeds either.

Captain Kirk is a larger than life hero, and he IS Trek. We don't NEED to kill him off, and reversing that stupid situation would only be a GOOD thing.

Star Trek needs Kirk.

If you want reality, open the door and go outside.
