Features

By TRexx / 15:10, 18 July 2006 / General Star Trek

TV Shows on DVD reports that CBS DVD and Paramount Home Entertainment have officially confirmed the November 21, 2006, release date of the Star Trek: The Animated Series DVD.

The classic series, formerly known as The Animated Adventures of Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek, originally aired on NBC, Saturday mornings in 1973-74. It won a Daytime Emmy in 1975 for Outstanding Children's Series. TAS is the last of the Star Trek catalog to make it to DVD.

The four-disc boxed set is comprised of all 22 half-hour episodes, including the Emmy Award-inspiring "How Sharper Than a Serpent's Tooth." Also Walter Koenig's "The Infinite Vulcan," which was the first episode written by a Star Trek cast member. A number of episodes serve as sequels to The Original Series, and many were written by veterans of the live-action TV show, such as D.C. Fontana and David Gerrold.

Confirmed special features include:

  • "Drawn to the Final Frontier - The Making of Star Trek: The Animated Series"
  • "What's the Star Trek Connection?" featurette.
  • Photo Gallery
  • Show History
  • Wallpaper
  • AIM Icons
  • Text Commentaries by Denise and Michael Okuda ("Yesteryear," "The Eye of the Beholder," "The Counter-Clock Incident")

The set is presented in its original full screen, with Dolby Digital English 5.1 Surround, English Mono, and Spanish Mono tracks.

Suggested retail price is US$35.
