In this exclusive interview, TrekWeb talks to actress Crystal Allen, who played Orion Slave Girl D'nesh in the fourth season Star Trek Enterprise episode "Bound".

Q : Crystal, tell us a bit of your background.

A: I grew up in a small town in Alberta Canada called Camrose. Quickly moved south to continue to study dance in Arizona, and then to persue dance a career in NYC. I traveled to Japan and Monaco with various broadway type shows. Then I move back to NYC and started modeling, traveled all ouer Europe with that and decided to come back again to NYC to study acting. I did some guest spots on tv and small parts in movies and just 2 1/2 years ago moved to la. Leave it to me to choose the most competitive and difficult careers. I like challenges, I guess..

Q : Were you familiar with the Star Trek franchise and its fandom before getting the role ?

A: I was very familar with the original Star Trek episodes, I remember watching them as a kid, thinking it was so cool and futuristic. I liked Spock the best. I was just really excited to be a part of a show that had such a loyal following, especially to be remebered as an original Orion Slave Girl!

Q : Tell us about the green make-up.

A: That was the only thing that I didn't like. The process for 7 of 8 days took 5 hours of make up and it was cold! The spraying of green makeup all over your entire body! I said what??? when I first heard I booked the role.

Q : What was most difficult about the Orion Slave Girl role ?

A: I would have to say doing a whole choregraphed dance number in barely there costumes. We were moving around like green snakes take after take with outfits that were quite restraining. I'm sure the crew enjoyed that day!

Q : How was working with Scott Bakula and the Enterprise cast ?

A: We worked really long hours so Scott would keep things moving by cracking jokes. He was fun and professional to work with. Everyone made us feel welcome. They really do have alot of fun with eachother, Dominic and Connor were hillarious!

Q: Have you ever been to a Star Trek convention as a guest ?

A: Yes, just one. I went to the one last year in Vegas. what an experience! The fans are so sweet and loyal, for years. They all want their picture taken with us and want to know about the makeup and have a little chat. I want to do more conventions.

Q : In your lastest movie, Falling in Love With The Girl Next Door, you worked with Bruce Boxleitner, a sci-fi favorite due to his role as Captain Sheridan on the Babylon 5 series. How was working with him ?

A: Bruce was a really down to Earth all american guy. He and I have the same manager. He was really interesting to talk to since he's worked so much, he's very talented. We all had such a memorable time in Catalina island where we shot the movie. Bruce had quite a few fans asking him for his autograph if I remember correctly.

Q : What are your future projects ?

A: I am guest starring on Modern Men, a WB sitcom premiering in March. I plan to book a pilot this year and would love to do more sci-fi. The roles have alot of depth are interesting for me to create a part of me in these strange beings from other planets. I have a national swimsuit campaign coming out Anne Cole Suddenly Slim, also I will be featured in Femme Fatale magazine, not sure which issue , but will let you guys know.
