The latest issue of DreamWatch magazine, just out in the UK, features an exclusive interview with STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION star Patrick Stewart, in which he talks about his future projects in the small and big screen. Here are a few excerpts.

Regarding his new science-fiction TV Series THE ELEVENTH HOUR, which premieres January 19th in the UK, he said "The chance to do ELEVENTH HOUR was for me absolutely perfect because I wanted to do some mainstream television work and a series like this - which is contemporary, urban and gritty. On subjects that interested me and were fundamentally quite serious and yet still entertaining - was exactly what I was looking for."

Asked about his return to the role of Professor Charles Xavier in the upcoming X-MEN 3 movie, he said "X-MEN 3 went through a certain amount of pre-production drama before the cameras rolled - Bryan Singer withdrew from the project and then after some time Mathew Vaughan came onboard... Then Mathew also withdrew from the project, by which time it was almost too late. You can imagine, on a film like this, it requires a lot of preparation... Then Brett Ratner became the helmer and in every possible way hit the ground running with this project. I do know that everybody was working 48 hours ahead of what was being prepped. The pressure on them was enormous, so much so that the last 10 days that I was shooting - in fact a scene with myself and Sir Ian McKellen - we were shooting in the studio but from six o'clock in the evening until six o'clock in the morning."

With regard to the script for the third X -MEN movie, he feels that fans of the movie series will not be disappointed. "The script, I believe, is the best script of the three." he said "It's very intense, it's very emotional, it's very personal about the individuals that we've already got to know in the first two movies. It has some astonishing set-piece sequences. It has a number of quite significant deaths. [From] what I've seen so far, I think, it's likely to be extraordinary. Some absolutely outstanding work is happening in Vancouver - including from some of the new people who've come onboard ranging from Kelsey Grammer to Vinnie Jones, who are now part of the X-MEN family, If anyone saw Brett's RED DRAGON, which I thought was an outstanding film, I don't think they have any reason to be nervous."

More from Stewart can be found at Sci Fi Pulse.

Forgive me but Patrick Stewart is just another Hollywood hack | Report this post to moderator

His marvelous British accented voice is great for Lexus commercials but when it's all said and done he's just another Hollywood hack. He showed his true colors when he "distanced" himself for Trek and Nemesis after the films dismal box office performance. If your a big X-Man fan go see the movie. If your a casual fan of the franchise wait to see what word of mouth is after the film comes out. Don't let um get your $10 for a crappy movie.

Too much placed on the Director | Report this post to moderator

OK, Singer is superb, but he's not everything that made X-Men and X2 great, with most of the team and certainly the cast still entact, I think it should be great.

I didn't know they were killing off more characters though!!!! :(

Does saying it's the greatest really mean the opposite | Report this post to moderator

If Patrick Stewart says XMAN3 is the best of that film series so far, I'd worry. Not only is that just expected hype - I mean, could he say otherwise - but it seems as though every single time I've heard how some film was the best in the series of whatever, it really turns out to be a bottom clunker. So, on one level, I want to say:Patrick, that's nice to hear. However, given the "art" of communication in current times, what I would really mean were I to say that is: What a shame it's going to be such a clunker. Too bad, Patrick, do you think that'll affect they're doing any more of those.

At least that's how I take what the logic of today seems to dictate - based on when I've heard that sort of hype in the past.

I'm going to give X3 a proper chance, of course, but Ratner isn't as talented a director as Singer. We'll see.

But Arnold Schwarzenegger also said George Clooney was the best Batman yet.

I think I'll take Stewart's preferences for what constitutes good acting and drama and direction over Schwarzenegger's anyday.

Oh hell yes. But the situations are congruent enough, and everyone else had already mentioned "Nemesis", I figured I might throw something new into the mix.

Of course he said great things about Nemesis because when he said that he had not seen the movie itself just knew the script and of course the scenes he shot.
And those promised a lot!

The final cut is whar ruined the movie !

The Proof is in the pudding Mr. Steward. I'll reserve my judgement until I see the film myself!

and I agree with a previous poster who noted that the script seemed solid, it wasn't the best script by far, but it had promise. The biggest mistake of all the mistakes I think was selecting a director who didn't give a damn about the franchise.

And we all know how that turned out. I'm looking forward to X3, but not nearly as much as I'm looking forward to Superman Returns.
