Jolene Blalock and ENTERPRISE Score Viewers Choice SPACEY Awards

By TRexx / 10:37, 31 May 2005 / Enterprise

Scott Bakula appeared thrilled to accept the 2005 SPACEY Award for FAVE TV SERIES, presented by Canada's sci-fi channel, SPACE: The Imagination Station, May 29th. "This is fantastic," beamed the ENTERPRISE captain. "We've had a lot of recognition in our four years, but not necessarily a lot of awards per se."

Seated on the big chair in an empty NX-01 bridge, Bakula held high the hefty Viewers Choice statue. "I want to thank -- on behalf of everyone here at Paramount Studios, and the rest of the cast, and Rick Berman and Brannon Braga, Manny Coto, our executive producers, and all the other writers -- thank SPACE for honoring us this way, and for all the fans who have kept our show and kept this franchise going for all these years. Without you there wouldn't be an award for us, because we wouldn't even be here. So, thank you so much."

A video clip of Scott's award acceptance is available at VRRRM.

Jolene Blalock scored a Viewers Choice hat-trick, again winning top kudos as FAVE FEMALE TV CHARACTER. "I would like to thank the fans for honouring me for the third year in a row. It has been a pleasure playing T'Pol. And, uh, it's a shame and it saddens me that the show is over and will no longer be. But, this is a rather nice way to go out, so thank you very much. I accept!" (Video at VRRRM.)

SPACEY host Kim Poirier carried in Jolene's puppy, Ozzy, to assist with announcing the FAVE MALE TV CHARACTER. Before reading the name, Blalock held up a hand with crossed fingers, "Just because I'm biased, I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for Scott [Bakula], Mr. Captain Archer. And the winner is... Colonel Jack O'Neill, Richard Dean Anderson, which I'm sure is deep in some kind of shenanigan right about now. [Laughing] Congratulations, Richard."

Indeed, with classic Jack O'Neill irreverent humor, Mr. Anderson accepted his SPACEY from within the sparkling waters of his swimming pool, dressed in tuxedo and scuba gear, repeatedly joking about Blalock and her bosom: "Thank you, Jolene... both of you."

See the SPACE press release for a roster of award winners. The SPACEY presentations program will repeat on Saturday, June 4th, and Sunday, June 5th. Check your local TV listings for times.

  • She's gorgeous...but why? | Report this post to moderator

I know I'll get tons of hatemail for this, but...she is gorgeous. But the question remains, what was so fabulous about her character that she continued to win the favor of the fans even as the writing for T'Pol was supposedly terrible? I hardly watched Enterprise, so I'm really asking. What I did see was uneven and uninspired, with Blalok giving line readings. Did I miss something? Before I get an exhaustive synopsis of seasons 3 and 4 from diehard Enterprise fans who are going to insist that I simply should have watched the show when it "got good," I want you to know that I tried with episodes like "The Forge," etc. I didn't need to see anymore. The acting and writing were still bad, Blalok included. Manny Coto could only do so much to fix the leaks in that sinking ship. My question is, what appeal did Blalok's character have that won her so much praise for three years running?
