If the best that this show can do is to bring back two lackluster characters and actors, then it is time to let it die.

The only valentine here is to hard core TNG fans. No one else really thought much of Riker and Troi. Certainly, their characters were totally underdeveloped and the odds of finding these two dullards nominated for any acting awards are nil.

If this is what Berman wanted to do, he should have set his show in the future and have his characters glorify the stupefyingly boring social workers from the TNG cast. Atleast that way he would have left the original unsullied. As it is , he leaves a dirty stain on the franchise by corrupting the times before Kirk. He could have had the common sense and dignity to atleast leave this history alone.

Normally, I dont' really get worked up about people, but this guy is premium pond scum.

Don't just blame Berman. He is CO-writer...there is another dumbass you're leaving out and he had more to do with the ending of this series than Berman did...

I feel a bit stupid for saying this given what the general sentiment in this thread has been....but watching the trailer made me a tad more receptive to watching this episode.

that a better idea would have been what others has suggested below: the launching ceremony of the 1701 under the command of either April or Pike, with the surviving crew of the NX-01 doing some sort of remenising.

If you really want to do the TNG crew, then perhaps do something a la the novel Star Trek: Federation, where the various crews face down the same bad guy in different times resulting in them ending up in a temporal anomaly that allows them all to interact with each other. That way, you have both TNG and the original crew...

Nothing made me wince more than that one line. I wonder how painful that was for Scott Bakula to say. Berman clearly wants to go back to the glory days of TNG. That's the only time he actually had a hit show on his hands and maybe he thinks the fans will be pleased to go back to that era. Too bad the next generation is TOS. What a wasted opportunity. The series finale of Enterprise should've lead right into TOS, the same way Episode III leads right into Episode IV. Once again, B&B want to pretend like TOS never happened and skip right past it. If Star Trek ever makes a comeback, I really hope these two assholes have nothing to do with it.

Case in point, the TOS cast wasn't the original crew of the Enterprise NCC-1701. They would be able to age both Archer and T'Pol (as according to his bio, Archer died the day after it's launch) talking to Pike or anyone else of the crew (and as someone mentioned, maybe a younger Spock with no text but that really looks like a younger Leonard Nimoy). That would have been awesome I think (and I've seen maybe 3 episodes of TOS and all the movies, but I definitely think the cast is cooler than TNG).

That's the only explanation I can think of for having Troi and Riker show up on "Enterprise."

The basic premise of a character "looking back" to some historical moment (and what could be more historical in the Star Trek universe than the formation of the Federation?) is certainly valid, and it would have been if it had been from the perspective of the original series, not its spin-off TNG.

How hard would it have been to tell the same story, except have an older version of T'Pol aboard the NCC-1701 at her launch in 2245, (a la "Admiral McCoy" in the TNG pilot) and have her talk to a young Vulcan (Not to "spoil" anything, but yes, I'm talking about Spock)? The idea that T'Pol may have influenced Spock to join Starfleet would have been a more fitting and appropriate "link" between "Enterprise" and TOS, and the right note to end the series on, with the founding of the Federation, and the "origins" of one of Star Trek's most popular characters.

But NOOOO...Berman and Braga have to screw the pooch and show their hatred of TOS yet again with this lame excuse of a TNG episode.

from the captioned picture above, Archer says:

    Quote:
    "Here's to the next generation."

What the hell is their problem anyway? They knew that the premise of this episode was going to affect a lot of people negatively based solely on it's content, regardless of whether it's a well done episode or not.

Of course, 'next generation' could mean different things.

It could mean the next generation after the crew of the NX-01, which certainly isn't Kirk's time.

It could mean the next "generation" of Star Trek productions under new leadership.

And of course, it could mean "Here's to Star Trek:TNG"

I'm really starting to hate Berman and Braga:(

I think it's got a lot more got to do with the TOS cast being too old, hell even Deanna and Riker are getting old.

Does anyone have these two bafoons office number so I can call and protest verbally?

    Hey man,

I haven't seen the whole show yet but I read it, and yeah, while I don't think framing NX-01's crew in a sort of historical appreciation context is completely invalid for a finale, its the motivations of Riker and Troi and the events of NX-01's last mission that I don't really jive with.

BUT... still, sitting there and making the CG 1701-D for the episode really felt like coming personally full circle. I really tried my best to make it look faithful to the show so I hope the folks online don't rip it too much. :)

I just watched the trailer, surely this should say "Tellarites, Soval and an Andorian look up at the conference table."

I was wondering why the hell Tholians would be there, or even Surak seeing as he has been dead for 2,000 years.
