TV Guide published the first photo of ROBOCOP and BUCKAROO BANZAI star Peter Weller in the upcoming STAR TREK ENTERPRISE episode "Demons".

Weller plays "John Frederick Paxton," a charismatic leader who is opposed to the forming of the Federation. He is also a student of history and is taking his lessons from 21st Century despotic leader Colonel Green (the character is seen on a monitor, but the part has not yet been cast). Weller played the lead in the short-lived sci-fi series ODYSSEY 5, created by Manny Coto.

"Terrible things have happened since humans started interacting with aliens, from attacks on Earth to cultural corruption. This reactionary group will play into the fears of the people. It's big." Brannon Braga told TV Guide "It's what STAR TREK is all about."

The photo features 'Paxton', "T'Pol' and 'Tucker' looking at a child - according to previous spoilers, an infant with pointed ears and a name tag reading 'Tucker'.

Sigh...

Please get a clue yourself, and don't take Braga's comments literally. Obviously "Demons" and "Terra Prime" are going to be about humanity GETTING OVER their fears and xenophobia in the wake of the Xindi incident and so on, coming together and embracing the open-minded, inclusive worldview that the Federation is founded on. The "attacks on Earth" and "cultural corruption" are CHALLENGING the ideals of Star Trek, and through that conflict those ideals will be brought to light and reaffirmed. That IS what Star Trek is about.

I think he could have meant that star trek is about humanity...its flaws and how people overcome them...but what do I know? Basically I don't like the direction Star Trek has gone the last few years, starting with Voyager. However, to blame this all on B&B is just not fair, if you are honest with yourself you have to realize they were damned no matter what because nothing could live up to the original Trek or even TNG. With the 5th series they were definately damned any way they did it:

Set it after Voyager: People would say we've seen enough of the 24th Century.

Do a Prequel: Boring, uncreative, nothing really interesting can be done.

With the Prequel...
Reference the OS: How uncreative
Don't reference the OS: They must hate the OS
Violate Cannon: They don't know Trek
Don't Violate Cannon: The show spans 20 years focuses on 3 or 4 races, fighting with machine guns with a ship that looks like something out of Buck Rogers and tricorders the size of a refriderator...

Anyway I think I've gone overboard on my post, but it bothers me that everyone blames 2 men for something that is so much more complicated.
